TurboTax did not explain well what the Self-select PIN was and showed me what last year’s PIN was. I figured for security reasons that I should self-select a new PIN each year so I just made up a new PIN for 2024 And entered it in the box replacing the 2023 PIN. TurboTax did not give me any warning that this new PIN did not match the 2023 PIN, which would’ve been a good hint that ocean shouldn’t be changing it as in self select does not mean I should change it. .I eFiled my taxes. I have received an email that my Return has been accepted by IRS. Then I got curious about the lack of explanation for the self select PIN and I am seeing that people have had their returns rejected.
Do I need to file an amendment to my return, or what do I need to do, so that IRS does not reject because of the self select PIN not matching what they had for last year?
If the IRS accepted your return you are done. People’s returns are rejecting for the wrong AGI or the wrong IPPin which is a 6 digit security pin issued by the IRS, it’s not the same as your 5 digit self selected pin. The self selected pin is only for each year so if the IRS wants to ask about that return.
There are two separate PIN numbers that may be on your tax return. A 5 digit Pin and a 6 digit ID Pin.
What is a Signature ID
5 digit self selected pin
IRS accepts last year's PIN instead of last year's AGI.
As far as I know, TurboTax does not support this method of e-Filing.
It only asks for a new PIN.
