I have almost finished federal and state (CA) returns. No errors found in federal error check. Ran state error check and got a message about a partnership needing a name: Schedule K-1 worksheet - Partnerships (untitled): Partnership name has not been entered".
I went to the form to see if I could fix the error and don't understand why this form is in the state return. The IRS form is not in the list in my return. And I never entered any info about a partnership when preparing my returns. Husband did one consulting job but it was not a partnership (that income was reported on a 1099-NEC).
If I search on K-1, the federal forms are actually shown in the search results. But they are not listed in the forms included in my federal return. Should I just delete all of these federal and state K-1 forms? Or are they needed for something? Thanks.
If you didn't enter any partnership information this year, TurboTax may have pre-filled some partnership worksheets based on information entered in a prior year.
You could go back to the Federal return and visit the Schedule K-1 section in Wages and Income, under S-corps, Partnerships, and Trusts. Click on Schedule K-1. If there is an item, for example, a partnership ID number with no name, you can click on the trash can icon next to Delete. The next screen will list all of the forms and worksheets that are about to be deleted and ask for you to confirm. Click "Yes" to delete the forms. This should resolve the issue.
Otherwise, to delete an unneeded form or worksheet in TurboTax Online:
I did go back to the Federal return to Wages and Income, Business Items, Schedules K-1, Q (I am using the desktop version and did not see an item labeled S-Corps, Partnerships, and Trusts). I went through this topic again saying I had no schedules K-1 or Q. That cleared out the form from the list for my CA return. Federal error check had no errors.
However, after running the state error check, I get the same error (no partnership name). There are no Schedule K-1 forms in the list of forms in my return. But if I search specifically for K-1, the state form is there again. Why is this phantom form showing up in the error check?
