Schedule E Wks: Passive Operating Loss must be entered

Hello,

I am having an issue with the Smart Check highlighting the same entry in Sch E Wks for eazch of my two rental properties:

Passive Operating Loss must be entered (for 2023 line S Operating Loss).

The boxes are empty.

What should I enter there? Copy the value from the corresponding line of previous year worksheet?

Moreover the figures from the current year do not seem to match with figures from the previous year (if this is what I am supposed to use):

2023 tax return:

Operating loss 2022: Reg Tax: -3,892; QBI: -3,892

Operating loss 2023: Reg Tax: -6,846; QBI: -6,846

but current year return shows:

Operating loss 2022: Reg Tax: -6,846; QBI: -3,892

Operating loss 2023: Reg Tax: [____] ; QBI: -6,846

The boxes not populated looks like a program bug to me.

Thank you!

-Alex B

This experience has been reported for further investigation. In the meantime, enter the values from the prior year worksheet, matching the tax year. For some properties, the carryovers are out of sequence. For instance, 2022 is on the 2021 line. Or the 2023 number is on the 2022 line.

Thank you so much!

I moved the numbers in 2024 return so that they match years in the 2023 return. This did not affect the bottom line, so is it just the worksheet placement error, or does this have any effect on the return in general. For example, does it even calculate the operating loss correctly? Or anything else? I am not in a position to tell, just trying to see if this bug has broader impact.

Thank you again,

Your entries on the Carryover Worksheet are unlikely to effect on your current return. But you have corrected the historical records in case you have passive income to offset the losses in the future.
