Hello,
Will Turbo-tax have the running total refund/owe Information for 2025 as I input income and deductions? It was in the top left corner. I ask because if it does not have it I will be switching to a new product. I do not want to wait until I have entered everything to see my refund/owe status. That feature was extremely helpful and I can't understand why you would remove it. I was very disappointed to see that it was removed when I completed my 2023 taxes last year.

MISSING REFUND MONITOR
Sorry—-the “running” refund monitor that used to change as you entered data is gone. You have to get all of your income, etc. entered into the software in order to see the results.
The other place for you to look for your federal refund or federal tax due is on your Form 1040
Federal refund will be on line 35a
Federal tax due (that needs to be paid by April 15) will be on line 37

I'm ready to leave TurboTax because they took away this feature. Anyone recommend H&R Block or another provider?
I've used TurboTax for over 20 years and often referred to the user experience as a great model other systems can follow for simplifying a complex process. One of the features users love is the Running refund/owe information. I'm guessing someone in your legal department may have taken over the User Experience. I have all of my data entered and still can't figure out how much I owe, what a horrible user experience!!
Sorry to say I'll be moving on after over 20 years of using first your PC version and then your online version.
While some of the long term customers understood how to use it, it was a source of confusion to many others. They saw a big refund, then got upset as the continued to enter data and that number went down. They did not understand and called for help. Now you do not see that tracker until you enter your income, expenses, and credits. Then you review and correct errors and the tracker appears again. Once it is there you can continue to model if you want.
Will be looking for new software if this is not brought back. Hugely disappointing.
agree! This is ridiculous and not a feature that should have been removed! I paid he $49 and now will get a refund and will look for other tax service that offers.
Yeah this is ridiculous. Turbotax has been raising prices and nickel/diming everything for several years now. That was a very helpful benchmark for me, and on top of it the website stinks... I like the visual layout of actual Turbotax, but the Intuit page is awful. I am literally signed into Turbotax in a different tab doing my taxes, searched this topic up and opened the page, signed into Intuit as we speak, but then it wanted me to sign in to Turbotax again in a little window on the right and took me back to my tax page.
I've just gone over to HR Block and it is A) cheaper, and B) you can upload your return from last year from multiple other purveyors (including Turbotax) to start inputs. I love the ease of having my previous documents saved over here, but it's becoming tedious and less advantageous to use. Plus, there's not even any customer service links, you pretty much have to really dig or call into their phone number, which-- cmon, it's 2025. Get real Intuit.
I'm another displeased customer. Without the tracker, I won't use the product. I'll be finding another software package.
Ditto what you say. I'll try HRs SW package. Bu-bye Turbotax
Yes. I just finished my taxes and the running total was there for the current tax year, 2024. There isn't any way for anyone to estimate the 2025 tax because the tax code is still under revision and probably will be right up until 4/15/25. We have not yet earned our 2025 income, nor have we made all our deductible expenses for 2025.
The running total/ refund meter was one of the best features of your product. I will be looking for alternatives. Whoever made the decision to remove this feature should have reached out to your customers first! This change was a bad decision!!!!
You can activate the Refund Meter by completing the Federal review.
On the main menu on the left side
I saw your response to my post. Basically, what you are saying is that I have to complete my full tax return to see what I owe or will be refunded. This defeats the purpose of the meter that used to be in the corner. The meter would go up or down every time I put in a new entry. If I go to Federal then Review, I have to answer all the questions and complete the errors or missing info before it gives me that information.
Whoever is on your product team does not know their customer! Why did you eliminate this feature? As you can tell by the feedback, your users loved it, and it was one of the main reasons we used your software. What was the purpose in getting rid of it??? I am so frustrated!
The problem with your rationale is that you have no idea whether there is an error or not when you get the figure at the end. If I add income I should expect the refund to go down...deduction it goes up...if it does the opposite of what I think I think I have somehow done something wrong and oftern have. I think the reasoning for this is that it makes people change their deductions to get to zero. Well, that is freedom for you!
Make all the corrections means do the whole f'n thing! No thanks
Here is a real life situation- I just jumped through the hoops of review and got the number to show. Here is why I like the meter. It shows I own $1100 which is ok because I haven't really done my taxes yet 🙂 just faked it to get the stupid meter to show back up. Ok....the other day it asked me if my daughter made over $5050 gross. I didn't know the answer so I put NO- ok. she just stopped by the house as she is at college. Turns out she made just over that amount. OK...so I change the question from NO to YES and POW! my taxes due went up $400. Alarms now going off - f that. What has happened- I need to fix something now...or at least ban her from making more than $5050 as I can give her the extra money so I don't get dinged more than she actually made. I can make any of those decisions if I wait until the end and see that I owe $1500!
Yep. Jumped ship (TurboTax) after years and went back to HR Block just because of this. The running amount helps me identify if entries are entered correct. Especially when businesses provide documents that don't contain fields that align with the form. I can also see how a form entry effects the return regardless if positive or negative. Whoever made that decision within the business should be fired. I love Turbo Tax but this was a huge dealbreaker for this year.
Shouldn't have to jump through hoops to gain a common feature back. Taxes suck anyway and quickly adds to the frustration. Bad decision that will cause sales to drop like a rock.
We at Intuit TurboTax want our users to be completely delighted with their experience using our products and services, and successful in their financial lives and businesses.
Once you file your return, as long as the settings to receive communication from Intuit don’t block it, you will see a pop-up message or receive an email with a survey asking you about your experience. We encourage you to leave your notes and comments there. “Voice of the Customer” notes and comments are read and acted upon.
If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can also leave feedback at the Final Steps tab:
Does H&R Block have this feature? Is their software comparable to Turbo Tax? If so, I am moving over.
Turbo Tax was an idiot to change this feature. Some product guy did not do his homework!!! What was the point in removing it???
This is an absolutely essential feature....I would say #1 feature. Who is the genius product manager that decided to remove it??? I am flying blind without this. Very, very upset and unhappy!!
This is my tax, let me decide how to use the tool...why do you dictate to me that I have complete the form first?
