The email you received from TurboTax for the rejection gave you the rejection code and the rejection message.

What was it?

To check on the status of your tax return, just log back into your Turbo Tax account. You will see the status of your tax return on the first page.

If there is an issue with your return, follow the on screen directions to make any corrections that are needed.

How can I see why return rejected? I claimed HOH but stated no rent or mortgage. Could that be why?

Generally this means that something on your return doesn't match what the IRS has in their database.

Here's how you can fix it:

Sign in to your account and select the Fix my return button. Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the information causing the rejection.

Note: Not all rejections will have explicit guides to fix the information. You’ll need to navigate to the program area to address the cause of the rejection.

Time-saving Tip: If what you originally entered is correct, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, a dependent that's already been claimed, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return. This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

I've had the same employer, with the same EID for 34 years. My husband's employer for 12 years, now they're rejecting BOTH EID's. What is wrong?

Rejection Code IND-517-01 indicates that the first Dependent listed on your Form 1040 has already filed a Tax Return and claimed themself.

If your dependent made a mistake on their return and didn't indicate that they were being claimed as a Dependent they will need to Amend their Tax Return.

This link to the TurboTax Help page  How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed provides information on how to amend your tax return.
