Purchased a second home

Do you have to file a Massachusetts state income tax form if you purchased a second home (future retirement residence) in that state, but do not rent it out and you have no earned income in that state?

You are not required to file a Massachusetts personal income tax return as long as you have less than $8,000 of Massachusetts income.  Simply owning the home does not require you to file a tax return.

Here's a link to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue website describing who must file a personal income tax return.
