Program error in transferring data to state return 2024

I live in a state that exempts all social security income. When data from federal 1040 (line 6) is transferred, the program used line 6b and not 6a. There is a difference between the two numbers and it does not benefit me. I suspect this is a program error and probably effects many people. I can simply file an amended return, but want to make the company aware of this error.

Help line is not capable of understanding that this is not just my problem, but a problem for people in many states. Please fix this programming error.

Please share what state you are filing.

To take a closer look at the situation, it would be very helpful to have a diagnostic copy of your tax file.  The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.

If you would like to provide us with the diagnostic file, follow the instructions below and post the token number along with which version of TurboTax you are using in a follow-up thread.  If possible please post a screenshot of the token number so that it will not be redacted.

Use these steps if you are using TurboTax Online:

  • Sign in to your account and be sure you are in your tax return.
  • Select Tax Tools in the menu to the left.
  • Select Tools.
  • Select Share my file with agent.
  • A pop-up message will appear, select OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.
  • Post the token number here.

If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:

  • Select Online at the top of the screen.
  • Select Send Tax File to Agent.
  • Click OK.
  • Post the token number here.
