PROBLEM WITH PAYMENT API FOR FILING A RETURN - NOT ACCEPTING EXP MONTHS 9-12 CREDIT CARD ENTRY

The payment API has three tabs, first is "Billing Address" for basic stuff. The second tab is for "Payment info" and this one is not working properly. - Name on card* works fine - Card number* works fine - Expiration month* has problems Only months 01-08 can be selected. Months 09-12 CAN NOT BE SELECTED. Therefore people can NOT pay for the upload processing fees for Turbotax and returns will not be processed. THIS IS CRITICAL TO BUSINESS OPERATIONS. It may be someone has HACKED your PAYMENT API. Get back to me when you have updated your software.

Here are the three things that other users have used to bypass this specific error:

Strangely, this often affects the selection but not the scrolling.

  1. Click into the Month dropdown box.
  2. Do not try to click on 09–12 with your mouse cursor.
  3. Instead, use the physical scroll wheel on your mouse (or swipe with two fingers on a laptop trackpad) to scroll down to the correct month.
  4. Once the correct month is highlighted, press the Enter key on your keyboard rather than clicking it.

The mouse click is often what triggers the the error in the field.

  1. Click into the Credit Card Number field.
  2. Use the Tab key on your keyboard to jump to the Expiration Month field.
  3. Immediately type the two digits (e.g., 11) without using your mouse at all.
  4. Tab again to move to the Year field.

If you are using the online version, this is often caused by a "script error" in your browser's cached data.

  1. Open a New Incognito Window.
  2. Log back into TurboTax and go straight to the payment screen.
  3. Often, the "fresh" session in Incognito will allow the dropdown to function properly.

This is happening again this year (2025 return). Exact same problem and nobody could help when I called.

I have tried all of these options here with no success as the program won't even let me scroll with my mousepad in the month box, nor let me quickly type "11" after tabbing from the card number. I am using the desktop version. I was also online with tech support yesterday, 01/30/26, for nearly 3 hours with no resolution and they made it even worse by deleting my download out of my advantage account. My tech support person even got on with her Lead.  Now, after seeing here that this is an ongoing problem, FOR YEARS, another question I have is why didn't my tech support and her Lead know that this was even a problem. Supposedly, they had never seen it before! I have updated my computer, cleared cashe, cookies, etc etc with no good results.

Got any other ideas besides purchasing a completely different tax program?

@Rnp777tx  Can you tell us what operating system you are using? Windows 10, 11, etc.

I am using windows 11. This, year after year, continuing problem is absolutely ridiculous. Luckily for me, I have other credit cards with exp dates within the first 9 months of the year so I got my taxes efiled but this problem that TurboTax continually ignores has made me lose faith in them.

I'm having the same issue - the fixes using tabbing, scrolling, and the enter button have not worked after multiple tries.  I am using windows 11. I have no other option for a credit card using an expiration date of August or earlier.  This issue has never occurred for me before and I've used Turbo Tax for many years.  Please provide an alternate solution to those you listed in your response or preferably fix the problem on your end.

Other than what I have already suggested, I am not aware of any other work around. We are currently investigating the issue and will provide updates as soon as possible.

Your group has had this problem reported in Community since October 12, 2025.
This is a problem with CACHE or the implementation of the PAYMENT API based on what was previously reported by me and others over the life of this problem.  In general the windows version does not matter and your question becomes a fishing exercise in the delay of gettiing a resolution with working with the windows platform development group.  You really need to chase this.  How do you know this is not an open hack in the PAYMENT API?  You don't!  This really should get prioritized (October 12, 2025 right?)

My credit card has an expiration year Turbotax would not accept. I tried your work-arounds to this issue.   None of them worked.     Do you realize how frustrating it is to complete your tax returns and not be able to pay the $25.00 to electronically submit the state tax return?   Luckily  I had a debit card with an expiration year that Turbotax could process.   This payment issue has been an around for  2 years.   I would think Turbotax would want to make the payment process as easy as possible.

If my debit card would not have been accepted,  my choices would have been to  snail mail my state tax return and wait 2-3 months for a refund or pay $40.00  (in addition to the $25.00) to have the fee removed from the state tax refund.   Nether choice is acceptable.

Please raise this issue to who ever in the company is responsible for resolving this issue.   Thanks for your help.

I had same problem last year also.  Starting to get the feeling they want a lot of people to choose the option to pay from their refund and collect a 40 dollar processing fee.  Seems very suspicious they couldn't fix this in two years.

I did delete browsing data and cache as I read to do somewhere, but that didn't help. I was finally able to input the correct credit card month by using the touch screen on my PC to get the list to scroll down to the lower section, and then also to move the selection over the proper month. I'm pretty sure that I hit the enter key on the keyboard after that.

COME  ON  INTUIT !!!

How is this still not fixed yet?  TurboTax updates every time I open the application, yet this seems like a simple enough thing to fix (I am a software developer, been doing it for 25 years).  Luckily my wife had a card that expired in August, so I was able to use hers.  But this is quite annoying, and from the looks of it, has been going on for a while.  Please give this bug priority.

This is same problem I am having as of February 19, 2026. None of the suggestions work for me. Is Turbotax going to fix this? I can't file.

I'm having the same problem today, 2/20/25, and none of the "solutions" work.  How long will it take to get this fixed?  Would think that this is important to Intuit!   Am waiting for a call back since the estimated hold tim was so long.  Need technical support but don't expect that when they call me back...

Fortunately, I had another credit card with an expiration date in first half of the year. So I used that. This is a crazy problem for Turbotax to not resolve.

Your proposed solutions don't work!!!

This is first year I have had a credit card with an expiration date after September, so I ran into this problem as well today!  Most irritating to discover it was an issue last year as well!  I have TurboTax2025 Deluxe and running Windows 11 on HP PC.  After viewing the work-around suggested, I ignored my mouse completely and used my touch-screen monitor and touch-screen keyboard and was able to easily select September (09) as my expiration month and continue with payment.  After spending almost 2 hours trying to figure out what was wrong and jumping through all kinds of hoops.  I should have done an on-line search right away.  Beyond irritated.  There are already many glitches in TT2025 that were annoying.  It's as if TT is deliberately trying to dumb it down and create issues to force users to their LIVE agents.  This whole effort is to just let TurboTax charge my card the exorbitant $25 to file my State Income tax return.  I am so annoyed, but it is done now and I hope others can try this work-around as well.  The issue again is the expiration month drop-down to pay Intuit for filing your State tax return would not allow selection by mouse beyond August (08), preventing entry of valid cards expiring in September or later. The only way I was able to complete the payment was by avoiding mouse clicks entirely and using my keyboard navigation/touchscreen input, as suggested by other users. This is clearly a recurring UI rendering defect in the embedded payment module and should be addressed, what a waste of people's time during the filing process and even more so if was was happening previously.  There should be no need for a work-around.

I used two different credit cards today, both being in the first 8 months of the year and neither worked. How can I be notified when this problem is fixed?

I tried the tip to enter my credit card month/year, but it still will not work, and I can not download a state!

I have the same exact issue when trying to enter the expiration month (11) as 9 ~ 12 don't appear.  I've tried all of the suggestions from the employee 'expert' and nothing worked.  I have used TurboTax nearly 20 years and this is the first year (2025 tax year) that I have had nothing but problems, starting with requiring the use of Windows 11, not importing much of last year's data, poor instructions and a not very intuitive experience.  I've struggled through it since I have no good options and now when I try to pay to file, I get this ridiculous issue with what should be GUI 101.  Please fix this.  I don't need another "work-around" or "try this".  Why don't you try it & see if it works for you.
