Possible Glitch in TurboTax

When I confirm my spouse and I received the 2021 Economic Impact Payment in the amount of $2,800 for the two of us, our Federal Tax due for 2021 increases by $2,800.  I know that the IRS payment is not taxable.  Please help!

Please go back and double-check your entry.

    1. My Info

    2. Federal

    3. State

    4. Review

    5. File

  2. Select Tax Tools

  3. On the drop-down select Tools

Thank you, John, but I've already done that interview form.  When I confirm that we did receive the $2800 for the two of us, my figures on the top of the screen for Federal Tax owed change from a REFUND of $412 to a TAX DUE of $2,388- which is exactly $2800 more to pay.  When I remove the confirmation of receiving the $2800 to 0 received, my tax due does back to the refund of $412.  Have another idea of what could be wrong? I truly think it is a glitch and there is no one to speak to without paying the higher fee.

Thank you again!  I spoke to the Turbo Tax expert and I was told to go ahead and file our Federal Tax without confirming that we did receive the Economic Impact Payment.  That way our refund will not change.   There are many problems with Turbo Tax and this Federal Payment they need to iron out yet due to many Federal problems in sending the Stimulus payments.  Thank you again for your help!

@sanhaight

It is not taxable and you aren't paying it back. Your 2021 return starts out by assuming you didn't get any Stimulus payments so it gives you credit for the full amount and your refund was too high. Then near the end you enter how much you actually got so it only gives you the difference if any. So you don't get it again.

Make sure you enter the amounts you actually got for the 3rd stimulus so you don't claim it again. Check over your return before you file. Make sure line 30 is blank or the extra amount you did not get.   Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.

If you have an amount on line 30 but you already got the Stimulus payments it will delay your return.  The IRS will take it off and send you a bill.
