Please fix software bug in TurboTax 2025 - What-if Form

Version:  TurboTax 2025 Home & Business

Platform:  Apple iMac M4

Form:       What-if

Bug:         Line 42 needs to be equal to Line 40 minus line 41a-e in columns (2), (3) and (4). However, number on Line 42 is NOT subtracting numbers from line 41 a through e.

The TurboTax What-if Worksheet is a tax planning tool in the desktop software that allows users to simulate different financial scenarios—such as changing income, deductions, or filing status—to see their impact on tax liability without changing the actual return. It is only available in the downloaded desktop version and can compare up to three scenarios.

I just looked at the What-If Worksheet in a Mac return, copied column 1 figures to column 2, and also found that the worksheet didn't subtract the amounts in 41a through 41e in column 2.

I am reporting this issue for potential investigation. Thank you for raising it in the Community.

If you like, you can also send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Desktop users:

  1. From the black bar at the top of your screen, select Online
  2. Click Send Tax File to Agent
  3. Click Send on the message that pops up
  4. TurboTax will create a "sanitized" copy of your return information with no personal info
  5. Post the 7-digit token number here in this thread

We will then be able to review your file to see what you are seeing, and we can determine what is going on in your return and provide you with a suggested resolution or update when available.

See my answer on your other post.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/turbotax-2025-is-incorrectly-calculating-taxable-income-in-what-if-form-line-42/00/3755220

Do you have an amount on line 41e for the Senior Deduction?  If you have a high income you do not get the 6,000 or 12,000 subtracted.    I see the 12,000 shows up on my What-If in columns 2-4 but is not  subtracted because line 40 income is over the max.

For Single the deduction starts to phase out at 75,000 and maxes out at 175,000
For Joint the deductions starts to phase out at 150,000 and maxes out at 250,000

You were able to replicate the problem with What-If Form line 42, filing as MFJ with taxable income under $150,000. Hence, I do not believe is necessary to forward my "numbers" to TurboTax.

Thank you in advance for reporting this issue to the TurboTax team.
