Pay with credit card not working

Trying to e-file taxes and pay the $25 fees for state filing. Payment options are Pay with credit card or Pay with Federal Refund. After clicking Pay with credit card, the next screen says click “Continue” to be connected to our secure online store. When I click continue, a window pops open, but a blue circle spins non-stop.
I have cleared my cache, changed my display settings, disabled pop-up blockers, closed the laptop and re-opened as others have mentioned, nothing will get me past the blue circle of death. Please help.

You will have to contact TurboTax support for assistance with this problem. Use the key words Billing Issue

See this TurboTax support FAQ for contacting support - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/turbotax-phone-number/L0Od33nMQ_US_en_US?uid=lfgviwbm

I don’t believe this is a billing issue, as the screen to enter payment information never even loads…?

It appears that you may have similar problem that I do (you may want to check the post  https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/turbotax-premier-won-t-efile-credit-card-payment-problem/00/3312346 ). I was told by tech support that the problem is due to not all state return forms being ready for e-filing for my state (Virginia). They said they would notify me when everything is ready. Meanwhile you can check the readiness of forms for your state here  https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_states_online_individual.html .

Thanks.

This system is still not working as of March 2, 2025.  Very frustrating.  Have filed state returns for many years and never had this issue.

Can you clarify which state returns you are trying to e-file and whether you are using TurboTax Desktop or Online?

I am having the same problem with the State of Nebraska. I am using TT Deluxe desktop.  I have used TurboTax for many, many years and have never encountered this problem. I tried calling but got a representative that did not know what he was doing and obviously working remotely. He kept talking to others at home and was rude and not interested in helping to solve any tax problems.  If this is what TT customer service is like, I may as well try a different tax program next year. I am not sure how I will ever e-File this state return.

Does anyone have a solution please?

I got the 'hit a snag' error myself while preparing my personal return.  I went Back a couple screens, then went back to File and Pay, and it worked.

Have you tried a Manual Update?

Some things that have resolved errors for other users:

  • Run all TurboTax stuff on your C Drive
  • Turn off anti-virus programs (here's How to Turn Off Anti-Virus Programs
  • Run in Administrator mode
  • Change network security settings from Medium-High to Medium

Here's more info on Troubleshooting TurboTax Desktop Issues.

I tried all of the recommended work arounds to pay with credit card to e-file and nothing worked to resolve this issue. I finally called Intuit during daytime hours and connected with a much more helpful customer service representative than the one I talked to last night.  After about an hour with her she reached out to her manager and to make a long story short I was transferred to the "Resolution Department".  I had to select "Pay with my Refund", rather than the credit card option.  Intuit did give me a refund for the $40 processing fee for this service. I reminded them that they have a glitch in their program and that there are others out there having this same problem and that they need to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

I hope this helps others who are unable to pay the fee to e-file their state return.

After being promised the $40 refund for the processing fee to e-File by the TurboTax Resolution Desk so that I could file my taxes on March 5, 2025 due to the problem with their program they went back on their word and have not and will not pay me the $40 the agent promised me.  I kept watching for the refund and made many telephone calls requesting the refund and was told each time that it would appear on my credit card shortly. This supervisor that I spoke to today says the agent should not have promised that and they will not be issuing me a refund.  TurboTax's customer support is horrible! I have used them for over 20 years to do my taxes. I am finished with them and will be using H & R Block from now on! Be advised they do not stand by their word and could care less about their customers.

Does anyone know when this issue will be resolved?  I'm hearing many discuss tech support said there is a problem is due to not all state return forms being ready for e-filing for several states - mine being Missouri.  I've seen this link that takes you to the forms for your state and it verifies the forms are not updated/supported.   https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_states_online_individual.h... .

I just called Customer Support to ask about this and he acted like he had no idea what I was talking about.  I cannot efile unless I want to take the fees from my refund, and like many others I'm reading about, I just want to pay with my credit card and be done.

If you are not receiving a refund and cannot pay by credit card you are out of luck and have to file a paper state return which is very painful!

TurboTax needs to get this fixed...

Still seeing this issue on 3/25/25. Turbotax premier desktop on the latest windows, Massachusetts.

Steps I've tried with no luck:

- Restarting Computer

- Updating TurboTax

- Clearing cache

- Disabling pop up blockers

- Disabling antivirus

I am sorry you are having this experience. Check your Internet connections. You might also try using a different browser; Chrome usually works well.

Do you owe money to TurboTax for fees, the IRS for federal taxes or to your state for state taxes? You can also pay the IRS  through the IRS website and Massachusetts at this website. Where TurboTax asks you how you are paying the tax, choose pay by check.

If you need to pay your TurboTax fees, you can pay by phone

He said he's using the desktop version, so why would you ask what browser he's using?  He also said he's trying to pay the state e-file fee, so why would you ask what he's trying to pay and suggest he pay the IRS online?  Your answer is useless.

I had to call TurboTax during business hours for each state I wanted to e-file for several people.  It's a huge hassle, and the reps aren't very well trained in how to take payment over the phone and provide the confirmation number to unlock e-filing.

TurboTax is going to lose a lot of loyal customers over their decline in software quality and customer service.  There are too many alternatives for them to suck so back and get away with it.

Wow it's April and it's not resolved - Shame on Turbotax - I think they just want the $40 processing fee.  I spent 2 hours on the phone and they seemed to have no idea why this was happening now I see it's been a problem all along.

Note: You will get a telephone call within one hour from the "Office of the President" of Intuit if you file a complaint against Intuit with the CA (LA or San Jose) BBB regarding TurboTax regarding this issue!  It is ridiculous that it has taken the entire tax season and they still have not resolved this issue. Most of the customer service representatives do not know what they are doing. It is luck of the draw whether you get anyone with any competence. I learned to hang up and try again. I have used TurboTax for decades but will not buy it next year because the time and frustration I have put in this year to file my taxes. I am sure their lack of concern for their customers will hurt them as I know I won't be the only one shopping for a new tax program. I am sorry for all who have suffered through this problem. Rest assured it is not a billing issue, nor does it matter what browser you use; it IS TurboTax's glitch with their program.  Shame on them.

I have used this product for many years and have always been able to file the state taxes electronically without any problem.  Many people have experienced the problem you just encountered and Intuit has ignored getting it fixed.  I spent multiple hours trying to get an anwer and what I go was a no answer. Finally gave up and filed the California return by mail which was a giant pain!  Will be looking for a new product for the 2025 return.

I will as well.  I think the only fix is to get teh $40 refunded - I see others have done that.  I am in process of pursuing that.

4/12 update. I got it to work after completely disabling my windows defender firewall, as well as all the other suggestions from this page: https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/product-delivery/troubleshoot-installation-running-turbotax-windows/L79TYvMhM_US_en_US

Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall > Customize Settings > Turn off Windows defender firewall for both the private and public networks.

Crazy that TurboTax doesn't have good error messaging or tips right on the e-file screen. They clearly don't test and collect user feedback well since Windows Defender Firewall is a default setting for all windows devices. I will be trying out a different tax software next year.

Also have exact same issue when trying to pay the $25 TT IL State efile charge by CC. No resolution after trying above posted solutions.

April 15 2025. Final day to file. Paying with a credit card at the Audit Defense window and also the Sate Efile step both produce errors saying payment did not go through, and then having you Continue, which produces a screen saying Your Access has been restored. Reload State or something like that. In the end, it seems the credit card payments did not fail , and it seems the state was efiled. But TT does not give a confident feeling on this. I am shocked to learn so many people had to send in using paper for their state. Also not good is that tech support refuses to acknowledge there is a known issue. I am using Premier, on a Windows 11 PC Downloaded. If I am using a browser for anything it is Chrome. I do post on to the community each issue so we can figure it all out.
