NRA bug

Has the issue where TurboTax will not accept "NRA" in place of a spouses SSN/ITIN forcing me to print and snail-mail my tax returns been fixed for 2025?  If it has not, I really see no point in using the product so this is kind of important.

The issue is not with the IRS but with Intuit and TurboTax, who have not implemented this feature for years.

TaxAct and the IRS Free File Fillable Forms allow these returns to be filed electronically. TaxAct (incl. the free version) allows "NRA" in the spouse’s SSN field and supports e-filing for federal returns. IRS Free File allows you to leave the spouse’s SSN field blank when e-filing MFS federal taxes.

It's not a bug. I don't know of any tax software that accepts NRA in place of the spouse's SSN. It might be that the IRS doesn't accept it for e-filing.

The requirement for either a SSN or ITIN to e-file is an IRS requirement.
