Not able to save file

I bought and downloaded TT online, onto my Windows 11 desktop. It loaded fine and I began to use it. I stated and stopped a few times and it saved the file. I just went back in and some of my data has disappeared. When I tried to "save" the file again I keep getting the error message that this is a ready only file.

Appreciate any help.

Could be a number of things.

1)  But try creating and saving/re-saving some other types of test files in other programs...Notes, Excel files, Word files...new pictures...or anything with a bunch of characters, data in it.   If it happens for other files, then perhaps your SSD is at end-of-life.   SSDs apparently go into read-only mode when ready to fail....to give you time to back up all your files before replacing the SSD, or moving to a new computer.

2)  Do you have multiple logins for that computer?  Sometimes logging in as a Guest is Read-Only for certain files

All I can think of for the moment...unless you somehow set the sub-directory your file is located in as Read Only

Oh.....another one...

3)  First, make you have TTX shut down...then Rt-Click on the TTX icon, and select "Run as Administrator" from the pop-up menu.  See if you can save then.

When I try to exit Turbotax, the program asks me if I want to save the file. When I click yes, it tries to save then comes back with an error message stating that "Couldn't save file because it is a read only file....use save as to rename it or move it. When I try to rename it, it still won't save. I've never had this problem before with TT, and now I feel like I'm either going to lose all my entries or that I will not be able to save the file after I'm totally finished. Help, please

You might be attempting to save it to a directory designated as a Read-Only directory  (or at least, your computer thinks it is Read-Only).

Try doing a Save-As to your desktop.   Then Move it to wherever you want it from there.
