Although you might be able to view or print your information from the website, most banks, brokerages and other financial institutions do not have the data formatted for import into tax software before sometime in February. So if you are wanting to enter it sooner, you have to key it in by hand. Or….wait until it is available for import.
If you want to enter it manually, click the option that says “I’ll type it in myself”

thank you for your response. just wondering if this is a common error when the financial institution is not ready for tax softwares or an issue with my PC. Anyone else having the same error with Merrill?
You're not alone...connecting from TT to Merrill didn't work last year (had to manually enter everything) and so far this year, nothing. Merrill says its a TT problem, TT says it's a Merrill problem.
Issue is now resolved.I was able download the forms from Merrill last week and file my taxes.
I've been doing stock trades with Merrill for years and TurboTax has not allowed me to connect to "Merrill" ever! It's Merrill - A Bank of America Company. TT will pull up Merrill "Edge" but not just Merrill. My documents DO NOT SAY Merrill "Edge." Must be different entities. Even when I've tried connecting to Merrill "Edge," it will not recognize my account cause it's not them! Regardless, it's very frustrating trying to enter these manually. My RSU transactions are very confusing and the questions do not match what is on the documents! I could understand if Merrill, A Bank of America Company, was NOT a major bank! Sooo very frustrating!
If you are using TurboTax Online, try importing using a different browser.
See the following TurboTax Help articles for potential fixes:
Yep. Same here. Didnt work this year, not working this year. Neither side helpful.
Are you getting the reCaptcha error? If so, make sure your computer is up to date. This has worked for many users.
If you still have issues, see this article where you can sign up for updates: Why am I getting an invalid site key reCAPTCHA error in TurboTax Desktop when trying to import brokerage information?
No Captcha error. It tries to establish a connection then does nothing. No pop up, no login error (that's what happened last year) nothing. I can direct to the Merrill site and login easily, just no connection to turbo tax.
Same here. Given that there's absolutely no response in TT when you enter your Merrill credentials, I would appear the problem is with TT.
No Captia error. I'm a technical person and my computer stays up to date on everything always. In fact, no info on the problem at all. Many others have the same problem obviously. Wish I knew how many years I've been dealing with this - I've lost count. Makes the most difficult part of my taxes like pulling teeth. shouldn't be this way!
When attempting to sign in under the option of Merrill - Merrill Edge, I get the screen "Please attempt your login again. If you continue to have difficulty, please call 1.800.MERRILL (637.7455)." which I did and spent almost an hour on with Merrill rep changing password and a few other stuff and still nothing.
Try using a different web browser and see if you still have the same issue. For example, if you are using google chrome, try switching to foxfire or Microsoft edge. Also, verify the financial institute that is coming through is the correct site for Merrill Edge. Several partners start with the same name and it can throw off the import if the wrong one is selected.
Most of us are not using the online version, so a different web browser has no application.
If you're using desktop, you can try a manual download. Sometimes the online update option does not preform the update. Here are instructions for how you can get the latest federal program update:
We don't offer manual updates for TurboTax state software. If you need to update your state, here are your options.
If the manual update does not correct the option, the other option is the "Type it yourself" option.
The super patch did not work. Very disappointing. I've used this product for years and it has always connected to ML with no issues.
You're lucky. I moved to Merrill and last year was my first attempt to connect...never worked.
This year looks the same.
I'm also having the same issue of trying to import Merrill tax info into TurboTax. Never had a problem with this before and can't understand why now. My Chase Bank tax data imported just fine. Actually a couple weeks ago when I was notified you could import Merrill tax data, it worked. But then received notice Merrill updated some of the docs so tried to import again and this time failed. Tried everything...deleting the first Merrill import data, using different browsers, clearing cache, restarting TurboTax. Just keep getting a popup notice when I try to import saying to call Merrill's 800 number which I did. Merrill said everything was ok on their end and that I should call TurboTax. I called TurboTax and they said it was Merrill's issue and gave me suggestions what to try which so far has not worked. So now just in holding pattern hoping over the next few days either Merrill or TurboTax will come up with a fix. Would like to complete my tax return but this import issue is holding me up.
I think it's on Merrill. Other banks downloaded fine. I have tried every day without success. What a pain to do if typed individually. I wonder why Intuit won't contact Merrill or vice versa to discuss the problem.
Finally resolved the problem after discussing with my Merrill advisor. Established a separate Merrill account for my wife’s IRA a few years ago setting up separate sign in/user name. However didn’t have official authorization to her account when setup. Advisor sent e-authorization for my wife's signature allowing full IRA access. Once processed, tried again importing all our Merrill’s tax docs into TurboTax using my wife’s username and password, and it worked! Everything got imported from all of our accounts! So problem solved as it centered on lagging access authorization doc from my wife. Even though we have separate sign-ins/usernames/passwords and all our account info is the same for both, TurboTax would only import using my wife’s sign-in.
It is very frustrating. Funny thing is I had always used my sign-in, not my wife's, and info always imported to TT without issue until this year. I'm going to talk again with my advisor about this as I would prefer just one account sign-in since both of ours have identical information. I've had zero problem in importing Chase tax information...thus appears to be a Merrill problem they need to fix.
