NO state indicated on Box 15

On my W-2 for the Federal Filing Copy, Box 15 is blank and the Employer's state ID no. says TOTAL STATE.

Box 17 State Income Tax - the amount is the combination  of my 2 states. I am not able to file my return with Box 15 not completed. What do I need to do? Especially, since I am doing what my W-2 states and it was actually uploaded as such.

with your federal w-2 you should have gotten state w-2's copies.  if not contact your employer. for a fee you can get complete copies of your w-2 from the Social Security Adm. in Turbotax on the federal w-2 substitute what is on the state w-2's.  you will not have a state w-2 if there is no income tax in that state.

If there was state tax withheld in box 17 then a state ID and payer tax number is required in box 15.

Ask your employer to explain or issue a corrected W-2.

...Now...if you do have the two states listed separately on their own lines on one of your real W-2 form copies.... you just DO Not enter the line with the Total State number.

____________________________

As noted already...check your Paper or PDF copy of the real W-2 form to see if any of the copies show the two states listed individually....and if you do, then those are the two state lines that are needed to be entered on that W-2 form in the software.....(and again, not the Total State line).

If the W-2 is still giving you problems form your upload, delete  the software W-2 and enter it again manually putting in all of the federal information and just the two different state lines in the box 15-to-17 area.

Of course, if your real W-2 form copies don't have those tow states listed anywhere, then you do need a new set of W-2 forms from the employer (as others have already noted)
