Yes.  You already have confirmation your employer will refund you so it's all right to change the number on your W-2 for the NJ DI and file your return.  The State of NJ knows that an overpayment is no going to be made to them by your employer due to the math on an employer report that is filed.

Check your last payroll stub or contact your employer for UI/WF/SWF, DI, and FLI. Your employer may have combined several insurance premium payments into NJ DI.

If that’s what happened, you can split them up into several Box 14 entries,

For 2022, the maximum employee contributions were:

  • UI/WF/SWF — $169.15;
  • DI — $212.66;
  • FLI — $212.66.

$626 is still higher than those three totals. Either your employer added something else into DI or your employer withheld too much. In that case, your employer will have to refund the difference.

Thank you - so my employer incorrectly over withheld the NJ DI and will refund me the difference.  TT won't let me get past the final check since it says the NJ DI is too high.  Should I just change the amount on the final check to the correct amount of $212.66 so TT let's it get filed ?  And then wait for the refund of the overage from my employer ?
