Multiple W-2 from same employer

My wife works in NY but we live in NJ. The NY W-2 has all the information on one W-2 form but the NJ one seems to be split into two for her.

The difference between the two NJ W-2s is the following:

12a - one says C $xx.xx and the other is also C but a different amount

12b - one says D $xxxx.xx and the other is also D but a different amount

12c - one says DD $xxxxx.xx and the other does not have it

Boxes 16 are different on both and only one of them has the state income tax listed.

Do just add these amounts to make one so it can be entered into the NJ W-2 lines?

We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?

Did your wife's employer reorganize or change payroll companies? Did she start working from home? I'm not understanding why your wife would get two New Jersey W-2s.

Hi, I checked her previous pay stubs and they have been done this way for the past 3 years to be honest but I have always just added them up when entering the NJ totals. Her 2019 and 2018 W-2s are the same way as 2020 where the NJ state wages are broken out in two W-2s. She is not aware of the company switching payroll companies and due to Covid-19 she has been working from home since March but that would not explain the previous years.

Couldn't really say why that is broken out that way, except that the C, D, and DD codes might be NJ amounts.  This may well be so if the NJ income is different from the Federal/NY amounts (which does happen).  I don't think you need to do anything different from what you've been doing in the past.
