Mailing Pennsylvania Tax Return

Hello,
I already filed my taxes this year. While my federal tax return was e-file and is already accepted, I was asked to file my state tax return by mail as I had an early withdrawal penalty greater than the interest income generated per one of the 1099-INT form.

My question really is, Do I need to include all my W-2s and 1099s with my Pennsylvania State Tax return? OR including any of them would work?

I have several 1099s and two W2s (for myself and my spouse) and I am not sure whether including all of them is really necessary.
Please advise.

You'll need to include your W-2s and some types of Form 1099, among other things.

According to Assembling Your PA-40 in the PA-40 Instructions Booklet, you should include your:

Federal Forms, W-2, 1099-R, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC. Photocopies of your Form(s) W-2 (be sure the information is legible), or your actual Form(s) W-2. Include a statement to list and total your other taxable compensation. You must submit photocopies of your Form(s) 1099-R, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC and other statements that show other compensation and any PA tax withheld.

NOTE: Do not include copies of Form(s) 1099-DIV and 1099-INT, unless the forms show PA income tax withheld

See the link above for a listing of all the documents you need to include with your state return.

Thanks. The referenced link/page in your response also says below -

"Include a statement to list and total your other taxable compensation"

Does this mean I need to list out all interest income generated as per the several1099-INT forms I have?

It's not clear what they are referring to, but I would not include a list of your Interest Forms unless you have PA withholding, which would be unusual. If they need more information, they will let you know.

It does not say anything in Turbo Tax 2024 State for PA to send these documents. Please update the Turbo Tax program as it says nothing about sending federal forms etc with the state taxes.

What about 1099 B and INT and DIV from Schwab accounts?

Pennsylvania says (when paper-filing):

Assembling Your PA-40 Arrange your documents in the following order when submitting your 2024 PA tax return:

• Original PA-40. Do not mail a photocopy of your PA-40 or a copy of your electronic PA tax return.

• Federal Forms, W-2, 1099-R, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC. Photocopies of your Form(s) W-2 (be sure the information is legible), or your actual Form(s) W-2. Include a statement to list and total your other taxable compensation. You must submit photocopies of your Form(s) 1099-R, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, and other statements that show other compensation and any PA tax withheld.

NOTE: Do not include copies of Form(s) 1099-DIV and 1099-INT, unless the forms show PA income tax withheld.

• PA Schedule OC and the required supporting documents when claiming any of the restricted tax credits that PA law allows.

• PA Schedule(s) RK-1, PA Schedule(s) NRK-1. If you did not receive PA schedules, then submit federal Schedule(s) K-1. See Partnership, Limited Liability Company and PA S Corporation Partners, Members and Shareholders beginning on Page 16.

• PA Schedule(s) G-L. If you are claiming a resident credit for taxes paid to other states, include each schedule followed by any required supporting documents for the schedule.

• All other required PA schedules and forms, including any additional sheets you prepared. IMPORTANT: Please include your name(s), Social Security number(s), tax year, and a brief line reference to the PA-40 or PA-40 schedule for any additional sheets you include with your return.

• All other required documents, including federal schedules (where the instructions allow the use of federal schedules), that explain the information you entered

See the underlined section about your INTs and DIVs.

Anyone have a take on this wording from the PA Instructions booklet?

"Federal Forms, W-2, 1099-R, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC."

The comma after "Federal Forms," suggests they're asking for the 1040 and all federal schedules, too. Doesn't sound right to me, but would appreciate anyone else's take on that.

Yes, Federal forms means all of the forms that are part of the Federal return. You don't need to send the worksheets that are to keep for your information only.
