Mailed Return from abroad - Private delivery service

Hello,

I mailed my return via regular mail from abroad a month ago. (I cannot e-file).

However, according to USPS  tracking it has been 'In Transit to Next Facility' since March 28th. Since I am concerned it might have been lost, I am considering mailing it again using a private delivery service (DHL).

According to TurboTax instructions  my return via regular mail was sent to

Department of the Treasury

Internal Revenue Service

Kansas City, MO [removed]

Do I understand correctly that in this case I would have to use the following address to mail it with a private service

I found this here https://www.irs.gov/filing/submission-processing-center-street-addresses-for-private-delivery-servic...

Kansas City - Internal Revenue Submission Processing Center
333 W. Pershing,
Kansas City, MO 64108

Thank you in advance for your help

Yes, use  the address from the IRS website for private delivery service listed above in your initial inquiry above.

If both returns were the same and the IRS already accepted the first return, the IRS will reject the other return that you mailed.

The IRS looks at the mail stamp for the submission date. Since you mailed it before the delivery due date, you have no worries. I would keep the tracking records as proof.

The IRS says:  Your return is considered filed on time if the envelope is properly addressed, has enough postage, is postmarked, and is deposited in the mail by the due date.
