If you didn't file a federal income tax return, to correct a stimulus payment entry, log back on and go through the federal interview again. Once you complete that, TurboTax will do a Federal Review.

  1. On the Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount screen, select Continue.
  2. On the Did you get a stimulus payment? screen, select Yes and enter the amounts received.
  3. Continue with the onscreen interview until complete.

If you filed a federal income tax return and it was accepted by the IRS, per IRS

  • DO NOT file an amended tax return with the IRS. If you entered an amount on line 30 but made a mistake in calculating the amount, the IRS will calculate the correct amount of the Recovery Rebate Credit, make the correction to your tax return and continue processing your return. If a correction is needed, there may be a slight delay in processing your return and the IRS will send you a notice explaining any change made.

Note: The stimulus payments are not taxable income to you.

you do not enter anything on Line 30 - it is calculated automatically,

near the end of turbo tax, you'll be asked how much stimulus you actually received.  Be sure to list the 1st and 2nd stimulus separately and accurately.  The 14444 notice just stated how much you received; if you don't have it, it doesn't matter, just accurately enter what you received for the 2 stimulus payments.

then turbo tax will calculate Line 30.

if you still don't agree with what is on line 30, please post back details on why you think it's incorrect.
