Is it a way to get around this error? This error keeps occurring right after I transmit my return. I've only filed one return so far, so not sure why the system thinks I used all five e-files already. Now I am trying to file my second return.

Error message: Your transmission didn't go through - Turbo tax was unable to send your return to the intuit electronic filing center, for the following reason: Transmission Failed: The IRS allows taxpayers to electronically file a maximum of 5 federal returns with the same phone number. This phone number has already been used to file 5 returns. By selecting continue, you can print and then mail your return(s). Professional taxpayers should use a professional product to e-file multiple returns.

I tried to purchase a second license code to see if that would work and it didn't. Spent 2-3 hours on the phone with customer service and they could not figure it out either. I just don't understand how my first return went through perfectly.

That’s the number I called yesterday and spent three hours on the phone. They couldn’t figure it out.

Can't you change the phone number in the Personal Info section?  Or not enter a phone number at all?  A phone number is not required to Efile; the IRS is never going to call you.

Have the same exact error message, which I had last year for 2023 taxes.  After about 2 days on the phone in 2024, printed everything and mailed in the paper taxes returns.  Turbotax support gave me the run around for hours, sent me to the store to purchase a second license, uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded and etc.  Had over $250 into purchasing various versions of the software.  NOTHING WORKED!!  Now it has happened again.  The Tech support is absolutely horrible with no resolution or follow-up.

I've always left the phone number field blank, still an issue.

After spending an hour on the phone with Tech Support this tax season, was referred to the IRS to have them check how many returns have been filed under my phone number.  Honestly, felt like this was a long shot, as couldn't imagine the IRS tracking federal tax returns via phone numbers.  Really?  People change their phone numbers constantly, so that would be absurd that the IRS would track federal returns in that manner.  Once discussed with an IRS respresentative today, said the same thing.  This issue is definitely a TURBOTAX ISSUE, not the IRS.  So, am at the same point as last year, 2024 for 2023 tax year.  Have to manually print out all tax returns and mail them to the IRS.  

 

After only submitting one efile, unable to efile the remaining four tax returns.  Not a paid tax preparer, but have our own taxes, four kids and our elderly parents and help with their taxes for the past 10 years out of the kindness of our hearts.  This is the second year with similar error message and after using TurboTax for the past 10 years, I WILL NEVER USE TURBOTAX AGAIN!!
