Is a surplus check from a foreclosure considered income?

please explain what happened.  you could have been foreclosed or you could have bought a property in foreclosure

Thanks Mike. My ex husband let our house go into foreclosure. He's behind several years in child support and owes creditors so he didnt bother showing up to court for it. I was notified about the surplus from the foreclosure and since my name was still on the deed it was awarded to me.
