IRS 1099 INT

I received a letter saying to report a certain amount that was "Total Interest Paid or Credited" by the IRS in a Form 1099-INT. I was not sent the actual form, just the amount to claim. When I fill out the 1099-INT what address do I enter for the IRS as the Paying party?

You don't have to fill in an address for the 1099-INT, just the name of the payer, "US Treasury" and the amount in box 1.

Here is how to enter that in TurboTax:

  1. Select Federal on the left side menu.
  2. Select Wages and Income toward the upper left.
  3. Scroll down, or expand the list and find Interest and Dividends.
  4. Expand that section and find Interest on 1099-INT.
  5. Click on Start to the right.
  6. Answer the first question Yes.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Click on Change how I enter my form in the lower right corner.
  9. Select Type it in myself.
  10. Fill in the first box with  "US Treasury".
  11. Put the amount of interest in box 1
  12. Click Continue.
  13. Select None of these apply, and click Continue.

When I do the Federal Review portion before moving on to the state taxes it says that the payer street address must be entered. Otherwise it remains in the status of "Needs Review". Do I ignore this and continue on?

If TurboTax has identified it as needing review, you should go back and add the address for the 1099-INT from the IRS.   There should be an address on the 1099-INT.   You will not be able to e-file your return until it is fixed.
