Importing personal data from 2019 return

Hi Folks--

I have installed 2020 TurboTax and started to model some scenarios.  However, the program is not importing personal data and other details from my 2019 TurboTax return.  How do I fix this?  In past years, the new year's application would pick-up the previous year's data.  Thx.

You do not import ... the info is transferred and the .tax2019 file must be on the same hard drive as the downloaded program ... it will not see it from a remote storage device like a thumb drive.

  1. Launch TurboTax 2020 and click Start a New Return (or go to File in the upper left corner and select New Tax Return).
    • Don't select Continue, as transferring is only available on new, empty returns.
  2. Click the Transfer Return button on the Good News! screen.
    • You can also click Browse and in the pop-up window, select All Files (*.*) from the drop-down at the bottom. Then, in the left pane, browse to wherever you stored your 2019 return and click Open.
    • Still can't find it? It might be on another computer; see this article for help in moving it to this computer.
  3. Follow any onscreen instructions. We'll give you opportunities to review, edit, or delete transferred info later on.

Note that once you've gone past the Transfer screens, you can't go back to revisit them. If you need to re-do your transfer, go back to Step 1 to start over with a new return.

Thanks for the reply.  My issue is that I am not getting that "Good News" pop-up.  Any other suggestions?

On the very first screen after you click "Start a New Return," look for a blue button that says Browse. (You might have to scroll down to see it.) Click that button. Then navigate to the .tax2019 file that you want to transfer data from, and click Open.

Installed TTax 2020 three days ago.  Put in a few numbers just to get started (cant do very much like mortgage interest yet).  Saved it (I thought) and came back to it today.  I cant find my file anywhere on my hard drive.  Before you put any serious work/numbers into it, make sure you are "Save As"-ing it to a real file name on a real drive cause an hour of my work three days ago was lost.

My issue is data appears to be successfully copied, but then nothing shows up.  Is there an issue with Turbo tax program?

Also, cannot get live help despite multiple attemts.
