import from pdf error

Hi:

2018 taxes were done with H&B on Macintosh. I have the pdf file of the return which was saved offline, but not the TurboTax (.tax2018) file, which went AWOL during system upgrades (my own fault).

The pdf also includes the state filing.

When  import to H&B 2019 from the pdf there is an error "This import was unsuccessful. The file you selected is too big...."  When I remove the state portion, no error message. However the import is incomplete, e.g. 2018 Schedule C info is not there.

Do I need to reduce the file further? Eliminate specific pages?

A solution would be a big timesaver!

PDF import is not worth doing (in my opinion). Even when it works, very little other then name and address and some personal information is transferred.     I do not believe that ANY state information is transferred at all.

Without the .tax2018 data file, transfer is rather useless.

You don't keep a backup of your system for recovery purposed that yiu can get the .tax2018 file from?

Well I've experienced how the import works, (not well).

And yes, I keep two backups, time machine and superduper. It is totally a comedy of human errors, system upgrades, new workstation and mostly MY human errors that lost the .tax2018 file. Of course that's the ONLY file missing.

If you have been using time machine then it should not be hard to find and restore the tax.2018 data file.

Agreed, except for some bonehead (me) wiping and remaking the time machine  backup.

Full responsibility is mine. Just was hoping/wishing that the pdf import was more than just some personal info. Really, why bother having that feature/ability if it sucks so bad?
