My tax documents were posted in my Merrill Edge account yesterday. Today I tried importing them into TurboTax and received a note that Merrill expects to make them available by February 1. They are already there! How can I get around this mindless roadblock and import them now?
You are trying to import too soon. Most financial institutions put the information on their web site before they format it for import into tax software. So.....you can print it out and then key it in by hand if you want to, or wait until it becomes available to import into the software.
That's not a Turbotax issue, it's a Merrill issue. It's their choice when to make the documents available by PDF and when to make them available for download by tax software.
It's after Feb 1 and this import still does not work.
TurboTax provided a username/password, then a dialog box that's it's establishing a secure connection, then it beeps and does nothing. Nothing imported! My tax forms are indeed there.
Any idea how to solve this?

I don't even have my paper 1099s from Merrill yet. Last year it was about a week after the paper (PDF) form was released before it was available for download. I think we just need to be patient.
If you have the paper form you could type in the entries, but that might be a lot of work.
Although you might be able to view or print your information from the website, most banks, brokerages and other financial institutions do not have the data formatted for import into tax software before sometime in February. So if you are wanting to enter it sooner, you have to key it in by hand. Or….wait until it is available for import.
If you want to enter it manually, click the option that says “I’ll type it in myself”
I have this same issue, I think we need to wait until the importable file is posted.
Feb 4, still have a trouble, called Merrill, Merrill said it ok in his side and blame to TT. Vanguards has a same problem, but VG does not post the tax data yet. Fidelity is ok for importing.
I get the exact same beep issue. I have the manual forms but don't want to do them myself. Wondering why it's not connecting after sign in.
I am having the same issue. Merrill is blaming TT, let's see if they can fix this issue.
TT never worked with Merrill last year and it looks like the same problem again this year. Like you, I enter my Merrill Login ID and password hit continue, says it's establishing a secure connection and then nothing.
Checked again today, still not able to log into Merrill through TT
Feb 10, pdf document is posted, but still can't download to TT
I got the Merrill pdfs today and still can't connect in TT either.
Has anyone tried calling the ML customer support number on the screen? I also have my PDF but can't connect, but I have commitments and can't call for a couple of days. I was thinking we might need to reset our passwords or something, but I haven't tried.
I called both ML and TT today. Merrill Lynch directed me to TurboTax; they said there was no reason we wouldn’t be able to download our ML broker statement. I did point out that there were multiple posts on TT forum the inability to import data into TT.
I called TT customer service; one possibility they mentioned was trying to download the data on February 15 when 1099B are due. Their reasoning was the possibility that ML doesn’t release all of the various 1099 data until that date.
My ML Tax Reporting file was posted yesterday in my ML account. I tried importing to TT without success. This morning they imported without a hitch, suggesting that the report file must be manipulated by ML software when they do their nightly refreshing of all accounts. Their software extracted all of my tax forms out of the report and let them appear separately to TT for me to select for importing.
Interesting...still not working for me. Called ML today (13 Feb 2025) and they said there was nothing they could do to troubleshoot the issue on their side and said to call TT. Whether it's an issue with ML not having the files appropriately formated to import into TT or another issue...someone on either or both sides should know. Very frustrating!
Nope. You enter your Merrill credentials and nothing. No error message. Merrill says it's a TT problem, TT says it's a Merrill problem.
Didn't work last year, looks like it won't work again this year.
If I have to change one next year, it will be TT.
Yes...still unable to import data from Merrill...2/22/25. Pretty frustrating having to do this step manually!
