Import Documents

Trying to import 2021 docs from Fidelity Investments. TT says not availiable till Jan 31. My account shows them ready NOW. I have experienced this is the past-- but only a few days. I think Fidelity has a date in the software which blocks import till that date. Anyway to bypass and get the data now??

You can type them in yourself now if you want to.   Or you can wait until Fidelity has the files ready for import to tax software.   Fidelity and many other financial institutions have those statements ready for people to view online or print for themselves several weeks before they have them ready for importing into tax software.

Usually they will not make those ready for import until mid February  but be aware that if the forms are not marked FINAL then changes could happen ... filing too early may require an amendment later.   TT has no control over when the broker makes them available for import ... control lies completely on their end.

No --too many transactions --must import. Problem i believe is TT. Fidelity has files ready now. When trying to import on TT I select fidelity but instead of a log on screen I get data not avail till Jan 31. Clearly TT is blocking access to the Fidelity sign on screen.. TT computer experts pls reply.

@Frank201 No----Fidelity does not have them ready for you to import into tax software yet.   The financial institutions have statements ready for their account holders to look at or print for themselves several weeks before they have them formatted for import into tax preparation software.   So---if you want your information entered now, type it in yourself.   Or wait until the financial institution formats it for import.

@Frank201   Did you call Fidelity and ask in person if the import file is ready yet or when?  Just because you can view the 1099 in your account doesn't mean it's ready to import yet.  It's not the same file or pdf.

Thanks for your reply. Actually TT builds the file for import. Fidelity has a disclaimer on import docs. But you are correct that its not the same file- a new file created from the Fidelity data.

Does the TurboTax program give you a date when it will be ready for import?

For more information, please see What if I can't import my 1099?
