Did you file a 2020 return yet?

When you go through the federal review tab it will ask how much you got if any.  Enter a 0 in the box if you didn't get one.  Or to enter your stimulus payment in TurboTax, type "stimulus" (without the quotes) in the Search box, then click the link that says "Jump to stimulus."

After you have entered your tax information and are ready for the Federal Review, it will be the first question.

If you are trying to trigger it, you can go to Other Situations, answer any questions and click Done. The next automatic selection is Federal Review and it will ask about payments received.

If you didn't get one or both of the Stimulus payments or qualify for more it will be the Recovery rebate credit on 1040 line 30.  It either adds to your refund or reduced a tax due.

If you are a dependent or your 2020 income is too high you won't get prompted for the Stimulus section since you can't qualify for any more.  And you don't have to enter what you already got and don't have to pay it back.  1040 line 30 is only if you qualify for more not what you already got.

Finally someone states where to enter the EIP on the 1040 form, Line 30.  Thank you.

The other discussions on "jump to Stimulus" doesn't actually take you to where the entry for the stimulus payment can be answered for the "Walk me through" process.  I

I have used TurboTax for over a decade and it seems to get worse each year.  Unless you have basic entries.

To enter your stimulus information you are actually looking for the Recovery Rebate Credit.

Here’s how to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit:

  1. Enter all of your federal return information as you would normally
  2. During the Federal Review, we’ll check if you meet eligibility requirements for the stimulus payment
  3. If you meet the requirements, you'll see the Did you get a third stimulus? screen
  4. Answer a few questions about any payments you've already received and then we'll let you know if the Recovery Rebate Credit applies
    • If you need to make any changes to your stimulus credit responses, search for stimulus and select the jump-to link to return to the section. Enter your updated info and Continue

It’s important that you enter the correct amount of the stimulus payment you received. Third stimulus payments were made beginning in March. You can find the exact amount:

  • On your IRS letter-Notice 1444-C which was mailed to you with the headline, “Your Economic Impact Payment Has Arrived” and was signed by the president, or
  • By visiting the IRS View Your Account Information page and creating or accessing your account, or
  • In your bank statements. You might be able to search your online statements for deposits made by the IRS or US Treasury

@timedmonds   Are you asking about 2021 3rd Stimulus payment?  The posts above were for 2020 returns a year ago.

FOR 2021

To get to the stimulus questions in TurboTax at any time, you can search for stimulus or recovery rebate credit then hit ENTER and there should be a Jump to link

If you are trying to trigger it,

Click on Other Tax Situations at top

Click on Let's get started

Answer some questions then Continue

Then click on Let's keep going

Next screen is for the Third Stimulus, if you qualify

If you did not get prompted to enter your stimulus information, that means you either:

  1. Filed as a dependent being claimed on another tax return, or
  2. have an AGI too high to claim the recovery rebate

Here is the Jump link

I finally assumed that I didn't have to report it if the "question" didn't pop up during the Federal return audit.  Usually you have to report all income that is received and the software (in my mind) should determine if it is used for calculations.  Same as the entering expenses but the deduction are not enough to override the "standard" deduction.

It appears that in this situation you don't have to report the EIP unless you are trying to get more "Credit" which the AGI is above the limit for the credit.  The software should have you enter the received payment and then calculate if there is additional credit allowed.  That is the main reason for using the software..........time savings.

Otherwise I can save money and just go through all the schedules myself without the software.

Thank you for the response.  After reviewing several of the comments to different questions I figured out the answer.
