I have a question about IP PIN

It won't accept my ip pin number.  Only my SS#.  Should I proceed using my SS#?

The IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) is a 6-digit PIN provided by the IRS to victims of ID theft.  I'll show you 2 methods to get to the entry screen below.

Here's how to navigate to enter the IP PIN into TurboTax:

  • Log in and open your return ("Take me to my return.")
  • Once the return is open click in the top right corner on SEARCH.
  • Enter IP PIN without quotes.
  • Choose Jump to IP PIN.

Or here's an alternate navigation:

  • Federal Taxes tab.
  • Subtab Other Tax Situations
  • Scroll down to Other Return Info.
  • Choose Identity Protection PIN and Start (or Revisit.)

Please explain what you are doing, and what screen.

The IP PIN is a special 6-digit number provided by the IRS to victims of ID theft.    Do you need to know how to get to the special screen for the IP PIN?

Yes, because all it would take was my SS#.

I don't know what screen you are on.   An SSN is 9 digits.  The IP PIN field is 6 digits.  I'll tell you how to get to the IP PIN field below.

@boca jerry The IP PIN entry in TurboTax accepts six digits (screenshot).

Type 'IP PIN' in the Search area, then click on 'Jump to IP PIN' to get there.

You can Efile your return.
