How do I go about filing 2 W2 forms from different different states as

Yes, this can be done in TurboTax. You will need to file one federal return and two state returns. TurboTax will walk you through completing your federal return and your part-year resident state tax returns. To learn more you might find this blog helpful. Multiple States – Figuring What’s Owed.

First, you will tell TurboTax that you lived more than one state as a part-year resident. Please see the following FAQ article for more information. https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302008

To enter mulitple W-2's using TurboTax Online follow the steps below.

Sign into TurboTax Online.

Start your return or continue your return by clicking Taxes > Tax Timeline > Continue your return.

Go to the Federal Taxes tab > Wages and Income sub-tab > Jump to Full List > Wages and Salaries > W-2 > Start.

You will be prompted to enter the first W-2. At the end of the interview you will be asked if you have another W-2, select Yes and proceed adding the next W-2.

Hello Turbo Tax Team!

Can you help clarify the following question, please?

I moved to from NY to CO at 12/31/18. Therefore I filled a Federal and NY State Return for 2018 Tax Year.

Due to timing issues, my NY employer did pay me my vacation accrual (approx. $8K) until March of 2019. Therefore, I received a 2019 W2 from my CO employer and 2019 W2 from my NY employer. However, I was a CO resident for the entire 2019 Tax Year.

In 2019, I only filed a CO and FED Return. There is no issue with my federal return or related taxes.

However, I noticed that CO Taxed ALL of the income (from NY and CO)? Also, my CO Tax Return did not reflect the Taxes Withheld by New York on the vacation accrual Payment? This is really confusing to me. Is it correct for CO to tax the NY W2? Also, where is my NY Withholding?? I obviously did not get the "refund" or benefit on my CO return? Aren't those taxes mine? I am confused! Please help me!

Thank you for your help!

You will enter each W-2 separately.

To enter your W-2 in TurboTax follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your account if it is not open.
  2. Select the wages & income tab
  3. Click start on the W-2 line
  4. Follow the prompts to add your first W-2
  5. When you have completed your first W-2 click the box add W-2
  6. Follow the prompts and add your second W-2

You may have to file 2 state tax returns if you actually worked in two different states during 2021.

So you have two pages of the same W-2 form (same job). Are there any dollar amounts reported in Boxes 1-6 on both pages? Or only in the state section, with each state on one page?  Report it as one W-2 form and add a second state in State taxes section. See screenshot below:

Hi! I have three W2s for 2022 (same job). I lived in NJ and worked in PA for a month and then moved to PA staying in the same job. My one W2 is for state taxes to NJ (as a resident), one for state taxes to PA (as a resident), and one for local taxes to PA (NJ resident working in PA). How should I report my tax return?

Are boxes 1-6 the same or different?

If the EIN number in box b is the same and you work in more than 1 state or city, sometimes they will give you another W2 with the extra state information on it and the top part the same or not filled in.  If this is the case, list one W-2 but include both state or local  taxes on it.  It will let you type in more than one line for boxes 15-20.  Don't add the boxes together.

Same for boxes 12 & 14 if there is no room on the first W2 they can give you another W2 with the extra boxes on it.  So list them all on 1 W2.  For box 12 just enter it in the next row or box.  It doesn't have to match the box 12a-d etc.

I have values in boxes 18-20 for local taxes to the same locality in two of my W2s. One is PA local taxes (when I was a PA resident) and another is also PA local taxes (but when I was a NJ resident). How should I enter these in local taxes? I get an error that each box 20 locality should only appear once if I enter them in separate rows.
