HSA Contributions

My employer deducted more than the maximum for the HSA during 2024, with the intention that the December's deductions would be for 2025. However, they put the full amount on the W2, so now it looks like I contributed more towards HSA than I was supposed to. Important to note that the extra deductions in January were rejected by the HSA holder and therefore were never actually paid into my HSA account. Does my employer need to correct my W2 to only show what was actually sent to my HSA account?

When you run the HSA interview on the Deductions and Credits page, there is a screen that asks "Did your employer tell you about any additional contributions (this is uncommon)."  And you can enter 2024 contributions that were designated for 2023 or 2025.  That should clear the issue for this year.  (If the withholding occurred in 2024, your W-2 is correct, so you make the adjustment in Turbotax on the page I described.)

I'm not sure what will happen in 2025, you will have to wait and see how the rejected contributions are handled on your 2025 W-2.

It would sure be helpful if they did.  That would be the best solution to the problem.
