How is form 1040 line 62 populated

I received a letter from IRS asking how I calculated Line (with $767).

Forms 8959 & 8960 were populated  because my W2 box 5 was greater than $250K.

But I cannot determine how 1040 Line 62 was calculated from these forms.

Thanks

The sum of Line 18 from your Form 8959 and Line 17 from Form 8960 should flow to your Form 1040Line 62.

If you have an amount on Line 24 of Form 8959, this amount should flow to your Form 1040 Line 64, not Line 62.

If after double checking the information above, and you still find that the correct amount is not flowing to your Form 1040, Line 62, I would need to request a diagnostic copy of your Tax Return to look into the issue further.  Please go to your return and click on tax tools>>tools>>share file with agent. Then share the code with me.

Thank you much! Regarding the line number, I was looking at 2016 1040.
The IRS should have figured that out themselves 🙂 Much appreciated
