how do I start another return under the same account? For my child

I am trying to help my 17 year old child file a new return under the same account. How do we start a second return when I've already filed mine?

You can’t.  Online is only good for 1 return per account.  But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.  You can start another return in TurboTax Online by:

  1. Logging out if you are in your account
  2. Choose what TurboTax Online product you want to use for the second return
  3. Create your account screen
  4. Set up a new login for the second return
  5. Start working on the new return

The Desktop program can do unlimited returns and efile 5.  You can buy the Desktop CD/Download program directly from Turbo Tax

When you use Online TurboTax, you get one return per fee.  Each return needs its own account and user ID.   If you use the same account and user ID for a second return, you overwrite the first one and lose it forever.

MY DEPENDENT HAD A JOB

If your dependent has a W-2 for his after-school job, summer job, etc. you do not include the information on your own return. You can still claim your child as a dependent on your own return.  He/she can file his own return for a refund of some of his withheld wages from boxes 2 or 17 (he won’t get back anything for Social Security or Medicare), but MUST indicate on it that he can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.  (Supervise this closely or prepare it for him!)

If your dependent’s earnings were over $400 and were reported on a 1099Misc or 1099NEC then he must file a return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.
