How do I get around 1099?

I am self-employed, and I guess you would call me an independent contractor.  After filing my federal taxes, once I get to the review section it wants me to put in a payer's federal EIN for a 1099-NEC form. However, I won't be able to get an EIN and I can't figure out how to get around it. I've tried several different routes, but it won't let me finish without an EIN.

Here's the path I took: Self-employment income and expenses > It's a main source of income > Common income: other self-employed income > Entered as cash

If you entered as cash, I don't see how it is picking up the 1099. What you described is correct. Did you say at some point that you had a 1099? If nothing else works, you may need to delete the Schedule C and redo it. Be sure to also clear cache and cookies and restart the program.
