You will need the TurboTax tax data file from tax year 2016 to transfer to the 2017 TurboTax program when a New Tax Return is started using the 2017 program. The prior year tax data file should normally be stored in Documents and in the TurboTax folder. The 2016 tax data file will have a file extension of .tax2016.
