How do I disable turbotax deluxe?

I didn't [intentionally] opt for the deluxe version, but at checkout it is charging me for it. I don't know how to go back and opt out....

You can switch to a lower version of TurboTax as long as you haven’t paid yet or registered your return. Just follow the steps below.

If you want to downgrade but can't because you have already paid, you will have to contact TurboTax Support directly for assistance. Here is a link to set up a phone contact: https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899263-what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number

The site can only be used from 5 AM to 5 PM Pacific time on weekdays. It will not work at other times. When setting up the call, use the words billing issues and not refund.

Yeah.... that isn't how you do it. Did you read what he asked? Because that option is not available to remove turbotax deluxe.

Trying to charge me $60 for deluxe, and $40 to pay with my refund. Bunch of con artists.

If you have not paid for TurboTax Deluxe then you can downgrade to the free version by using the Clear & Start Over option.

  • With TurboTax open select tax tools in the left-hand panel.
  • Then select Clear & Start Over.
  • Select yes when asked are you sure you want to clear your return.

BEFORE YOU FILE: On the side bar, click on tax tools, there will be 2 options, "Switch to Free Edition" or Clear & Start Over".

I hope this helps someone! I literally just had to do this because I decided it wouldn't be worth it to claim the dependent care credit because... meh. lol

@Toni93 You are posting to a thread that has had no activity for several years.  If you do not want to use a paid version of TurboTax, you might want to wait until the IRS Free File site opens in January and use that site to file for free:

Wouldn't that clear out all the information you've already entered and just add extra work for you to do? TurboTax notified me while I was filing that I had to file under the deluxe edition because my taxes weren't falling under the simple tax category. So if I were to do as you say, I would probably be resentful and regret such decision...

Yes to downgrade you have to clear and start over.  So you will lose all your work so far.

In the Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now.  Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/upgrading/help/why-do-i-have-to-upgrade-from-free-edition/00/26379

Or go to the IRS Free File programs

Free File: Do your Federal Taxes for Free | Internal Revenue Service

Or if it doesn't let you clear and you haven't paid and filed you could just start a new account.  Online is only good for 1 return per account.  But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.   How to start another return in the Online version

If you got upgraded to a higher version and want to use a lower version without losing your entries,  one thing you can do is move your Online file to a lower Desktop program and continue without paying for Online or needing to reenter your info. All the Desktop programs have the same forms.  You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.  Plus the Desktop programs have several more features over online.

@Spencerr What are you trying to do?   This is an old thread that has had no activity for about two years.  Some of the links here have been replaced with newer ones.
