How can I resolve Error 209?

After downloading TT Premier 2020, upon first launch, the program will not open, giving me a message stating simply "Error 209".  The program then shuts down.

I just received Error 209 while trying to install Premier 2021 after purchasing at Staples and then downloading.  Registration page closes without allowing me to enter any info.  Is there a fix for this since bfharms question a year ago?

several comments noted.  nothing related to home and business version.

 

also after hours so no contact available.

 

first time since 1982 I've had this much trouble with Turbotax.  Very disappointed.  

 

also not available at Walmart.  corporate greed too strong? enquiring minds would like to know.

I had this issue as well.  My problem, was downloading the program onto an external drive (passport).  Once I removed this and downloaded it directly to my computer's hard drive, it worked fine.

I also received the error 209. I had TurboTax Premier installed on an external hard drive. I uninstalled it and re-installed on my computer's hard drive. The error did not return.

I have the same problem.  Just installed TT Premier, when it boots up I get an Error: 209

 

No Description found.  Engine Version: wPerScm.2021.47.22.85 TPS Version: 5.37.0 (Tps-Compatibility-Version:2021.5)

The 2 previous comments make mention of the issue being related to downloading Turbo Tax to an external hard drive - can you confirm if this is also what you have done? @Maureengoff3.

I have not installed this on an external drive.  I downloaded it from the turbotax website directly to my PC.

I followed the advise from MarkWeinmann1316 and deleted TurboTax from my large hard drive and reinstalled it on my Solid State Boot Drive and everything appears to be good.

I've found McAfee being a problem.

 

Disable McAfee real time scanning and firewall.

Uninstall turbotax

Shut down windows

Boot computer

Disable McAfee real time scanning and firewall if it has restarted itself

Reinstall Turbotax

The fact that I had to uninstall from an internal secondary drive to my primary SSD drive means your programmers SUCK. You guys need to fix this next time because if it happens again, I will ask for a refund and head to a competitors product.

TPS Version: 6.2.0 (Tps-Compatability-Version:2022.6)

 

Error: 209

 

Question: does this help pinpoint what change I need to make?

Please try to refresh your browser and clear your cookies. If that doesn't work, try clearing your browser's cache. 

Then try logging out and logging back into TurboTax. You can also try using a different browser.

I've seen three scenarios where the error 209 occurs, and not just with installing TurboTax.

 - Attempting to install the program from an external hard drive or USB thumb drive has generated error 209.  For some, changing the drive letter on that hard drive to "D" allowed them to install it from that external hard drive/USB thumbdrive.

 - Attempting to install the program on a drive other than the default windows drive (typically drive C) has generated the error. The solution is to install it on the default drive.

 - Installing the program on an SSD drive has sometimes caused this error (among others). Several "solutions" have been tried that have worked for some, not worked for others.  For example, ensure the SSD drive is the default windows drive, and that the device being installed from is either that default drive, or drive "D:" if it's an external device you're installing from.  Another "solution" was to disable the automatic weekly deframenting of the SSD drive. Don't see how that would matter. But it makes sense to disable defragmentation of an SSD drive, since there's really no need to defragment an SSD anyway.
