Help Needed!

Hey guys, I received a refund from the IRS via check, and I have no idea of what this refund is for, so before I cash the check, I wanted to wait on the notice they issue regarding that specific refund, I went to my transcript(s) and saw that is said,

"971 Notice issued 04/03/2023 $0.00"

My question is, will that "Notice" explain why I got this refund? And also, is the date attached to it the date they are "Expected" to mail that notice out?

Yes.  The notice will explain the refund.  The date is the expected date that the miscellaneous transactions will post to your account.

More specifically, TC 971 is the generic code for an IRS notice or letter that will provide more details on the issue or advise you of further IRS delays (e.g additional 60 day review) to review your situation.
