Help - "Moraqsdt has an invalid date" error even though I have date?

I'm trying to file my return (on TurboTax Premier desktop on Mac) and I am unable to do so because of this error:

"Home mortgage interest worksheet: Moraqsdt has an invalid date" - "Moraqsdt: 8/24/2021"

I'm not sure what I need to do here to resolve this. I've tried a different date format ("08/24/2021") and tried deleting one of my 1098s and re-adding it. Any advice is appreciated!

Can you give us a screenshot of this screen, with any personally identifiable details redacted? Thanks.

@BillM223 thanks for responding - here you go. Any clues on how to resolve?

The mortgage acquisition date should not precede the Box 3 Mortgage origination date, but I'm not sure if that would cause the error. Did you report the prior mortgage that this company acquired?

Hi @RaifH ! The mortgage acquisition date is definitely after the origination date so I don't think that's the issue. The company didn't acquire the loan from a different company, it was the one I bought the home with. I did, however, report the mortgage for the other condo I had during this time (which I eventually sold in 2022). Would that cause the error?

No, I wouldn't think the condo's mortgage would cause the error, as long as you reported that one as a secondary home and this one as a primary or vice versa.

If this mortgage was the only one for that home, you can leave off the mortgage acquisition date entirely. Doing so should not impact any of the calculations. If a mortgage interest limit applies, that is calculated based on the date that you originally purchased the home, not when the mortgage was acquired.

Thanks @RaifH , that worked! I'll cross my fingers that the IRS doesn't hunt me down 😄
