I wrongly indicated that "there were retirement distributions received in 2022 related to a disaster that occurred in 2021 or 2022" so Turbotax said I have to file a 8915-F, which I do not have. I went back and unchecked everything I think is related to this choice. I don't if I had missed it or it's a system bug, but after I unchecked them, Turbotax still said I need to file 8915-F. What should I do?
Delete the Form 8915-F and any Disaster Retirement Distribution Worksheet listed in your tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen
Click on Tools
Click on Delete a form
I am having the same issue with Turbo Tax. It keeps saying that I indicated that there were retirement distributions received in 2022 due to a disaster that occurred in 2021 or 2022. I made sure that I checked "no" in my 1099-R entry. I deleted Form 8915-F, but it keeps coming back when I do the review again.
Is there another way to resolve this issue? I am beginning to think that it is bug in Turbo Tax. I cannot edit the form either, so I don't know what else to do. Help?
We are aware that users are experiencing difficulty with reporting the deferred 2020 CARES Act distributions this year. Even if this is not the reason for your issue with Form 8915-F, the following may be of help.
Please see this thread for additional discussion on this issue and the workaround steps below:
Another option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:
I was finally able to resolve the issue by deleting the "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" form, which then resulted to the deletion of the Form 8915-F. I still think it is a bug in Turbo Tax that should be fixed as soon as possible.
Glad you were able to resolve it. The issue has been reported.
For those using the dowloaded version, be sure to delete the Qualified Distribution form as noted by a kind user above. This is the only way to remove the form 8915. Turbo Tax, please resolve this bug in future years. I've always used your platform but may have to reconsider if not resolved. Thank you.
I had the same issue. I clicked "Forms" and opened 8915-Worksheet. At the top of the page is a yes/no box that needed to unchecked. It fixed the problem. Hope it helps.
Also open forms for that specific for an make sure to uncheck any boxes or answer no
I'm pretty clear this is a bug in the system, Intuit knows about it they simply say file an extension. No matter what you try you cannot delete this form = Intuit is hiding and they're not coming clean with what the problem is they should at least say that we're sorry and we are working on it, so very uncool
CANNOT DELETE FORM 8915-F - TUBROTAX HOME & BUSINESS
I AM AN EXPERIENCE TURBO TAX USE - CANNOT DELETE THIS FORM
I AM CALLING ON A INTUIT BLOG MONITOR TO PROPERLY DIRECT.
INTUIT KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND IS HIDING
VERY DISAPPOINTING
It does not work on my application. The form cannot be deleted. it come back right way
I did the same. We have to delete the other form ( previous one)
That doesn't work if you're itemizing, There's no list on the left
I found I had to delete my 1099-R form and the 8915-F form.
Then renter my 1099-R info and made sure to click the NO box for the Disaster Relief question.
Smooth sailing after that !
Tech Support person (Marshall) was very patient and helpful in walking me through the process.
👍
OMG - thank you @AZDave for the solution!
I literally discovered today I forgot to file my 2021 return today because I ran into this error in the 2021 version of Turbotax last year and thought I'd let the storm weather over and let a software update fix it (I filed an extension). Well - here we are a year later and I ran into the same issue.
The fact that this bug *still* remains in the next version of Turbotax just tells me someone at Intuit is being a tad bit lazy about addressing their backlog so next year the software is better than last year.
I, too, am questioning staying with Turbotax for a variety of reasons I won't get into now because that is not the point of this thread.
Thanks again for providing a workaround and honestly hope that Turbotax irons out this bug in Turbotax 2023.
Much gratitude for community-driven technical support!
Yes, I had a terribly difficult time yet. An intimate representative called me on the phone for my request through this software. She was very patient and knowledgeable, and it also had something to do with the 1099 R in my case it was with an 8606 form, no provide step by step instructions on how to properly utilize the back door Roth Ira reporting. The 8915 Dash F what is the replacement for the 8915 – E back in 2020 and that was for a cares act distribution whereby you could either take an entire distribution early and pay the tax on it with no penalty or you could spread it out over three years, in my case I took the distribution and paid it off in full in 2020 all in all I learned a lot from the representative and in fact as I went through the back door Roth Ira process repeatedly turned out that there was one checkbox check incorrectly, and that resolved it. One thing about TurboTax. It’s not always easy to get through the program, when you do understand the issue and could do it manually try relentlessly pursuing the Turbo Solution validates and enhances your understanding in knowing your return is correct is empowering.
