Form 1116 Schedule B

I am getting a message from TurboTax that Form 1116 Schedule B is not available but it will be available in a future release. I found this website:

https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_fed_online_individual.html

The way I am reading this is that I will not be able to file my return electronically this year because I need Form 1116 Schedule B. This does not seem right to me. Is there something I am missing?

Form 1116 Schedule B is unfortunately unsupported for e-file and is slated to be finalized for print on 3/31/22.

It is a brand new form - and it's not as simple as it may seem to incorporate something entirely new into tax software.  Many times the delay is the IRS approval of the form in the software (though I have no idea if this is the case here.)

it's not available to efile anywhere - because the form was created in December AFTER the IRS finalized their efile formsets for the year, it's an IRS issue causing the inability to efile the form.

So what you are telling me is that if I had my tax return done by a professional tax preparer they could not file my return electronically since I needed that form. Am I right about that?

The issue is the new form was issued in Dec

I first tried to do my taxes in February

then I was told the required forms were available March 3

When I try on March 3 only As I try to e file I am told I can’t. I can print and file by paper ???

so I try to file for an extension. But I cannot do that because it’s not ready yet. There is no date on when TurboTax will release the electronic extension filing

i can file for an extension by paper

i cannot file my state taxes electronically because I cannot file the federal electronically

all this took me hours to figure out

sone simple flags and warnings may help

s business like TurboTax etc should not exist the itd has all the info.

Yup--very frustrating, especially since the wording of the error msg you get when checking entries implies that the form will be available in an update--no mention until the very end that I would have to file via paper, which given the current state of the IRS seems like a recipe for disaster!

I have been told that H&R Block can file returns that include Form 1116 Schedule B.  The person who told me this might have not known what she was talking about.

annajoe83, do you have a source for your information about Form 1116 Schedule B?

I agree with the frustration of others.  First, I tried to file my taxes in February and it said for 1116 was not yet available.  Then this morning I updated the software and the form was there.  But then Turbo Tax said I had an error and that I needed to indicate whether the amount in Form 1116 was "paid" or "accrued".  I chose "paid".  Then I re-ran the return for errors and got the message that the form 1116, Schedule B was not available and would be available in future product updates.  I had assumed that this meant THIS YEAR for e-filing.  After much research, I now realize that it will not be available for e-file at all this year and Turbo Tax knows that.  The messaging that Turbo Tax uses is often unclear to the user and is very frustrating.  Could they simply use direct language that tells a user what they need to know.  Like..."This form is unavailable to taxpayers for eFile this year.  Therefore, you will need to file your Federal and State taxes by mail this year".  Instead, their messaging lead me to believe that I just needed to wait for an additional update.  Not true.

Same situation as others.  Carrying over foreign tax credit from 2012 &2013 and I have no Foreign holdings since 2013 so this carryover has been the same on form 1116 B for 8 years and all of a sudden I can't e-file???  I'm wondering why I am being charged for the TurboTax software if I get to the end of Tax Prep and find out I can't e-file.   Seems like I bought less of a product than TurboTax told me I was getting!

Here is the reply I got:

My name Erik with Intuit's Office of the President. We received your email and I wanted to provide you with the most current information Intuit TurboTax has about Form 1116 Schedule B – Foreign Tax Carryover Reconciliation Schedule. After further investigation, our Product Specialist was able to confirm that you will be able to E-File with the 1116 schedule B attached as a PDF, once that form is finalized. I apologize for any miscommunication earlier, as it was unclear if this form was going to be able to be E-Filed or not. Form 1116 is final; the schedule B is set for tentatively 3/31. However, our Development Team is working around the clock to try to get the form out ASAP. Again, if you are needing any further information, please contact Technical Support. However, that is the latest update our team would be able to provide at this time.

I still don’t see how this works.

you mean on 3/31 the form is finalized and we e file attaching the form as pdf.

or on 3/31 you just e file

however.   To e file on TurboTax you just go to e file.    I don’t see any means currently for me as a TurboTax user to attach a pdf file. What am I missing

also you have missed another line of approach. Why can I not e file an rxtension. Form 4868 in e file. This has to be there every year.

I have never efiled and attached a PDF.  Erik said to call Tech Support and they could s tell you how to efile and attach a PDF.  [phone number removed]   I have just been using TT for a few years perhaps one of the more experienced users can give a better answer

i have been using turbotax since 2009    initially print and mail and e filing from whenever  i cannot remember if i switched to e file as soon as it was offered       i see no mechanism in the e filing processing for attaching a pdf

the answers are now inconsistent     e file with pdf attachment or full e file from  march 11.

turbotax needs a clear unambiguous answer before i waste more time

TurboTax will generate the form for you @Chaz9.  Check back after 03/11 and TurboTax will handle attaching whatever is needed and e-filing your return.

@cclarke001 - Easy Extension will be available later this month if you would like to file an extension.     Save that link if you need to extend.   However, the dates and availability for e-filing Form 1116, Sch B have changed.  You will be able to e-file it and it is scheduled for 03/11 now.

I am happy to report we got word this morning everything is fully set for March 11, 2022 so you should have the full filing ability on March 11, 2022. Please let us know if you have any issues on that date @cclarke001

That is correct; we were notified yesterday that form 1116 Sch B (Foreign Tax Carryover Reconciliation Schedule) will now be available for e-file and the forms availability list has since been updated accordingly. As you will now see, it is slated to be finalized for e-file on 3/11/22 and for print on 3/10/22 @BMJRIO.

I updated Turbotax this morning (03/11/2022) then completed my return. Form 1116 Schedule B seemed to be handled correctly. However, when I clicked to transmit my return I got the following error: "We can't file your return because we are unable to locate the attachment at /attachment/Form1116ScheduleB.pdf. Please go back and reattach it. Then try e-filing again". When will Turbotax be updated to handle attaching this file seamlessly? If the answer is never, then how do I attach it myself?
