I've got an investment held in France (Societe Generale) for which they've reported my dividends and French taxes paid. Yet, there is no EIN, nor was it reported on a 1099. I've left the EIN section blank--was flagged as an error. I've also entered 99-9999999--also doesn't work. There was a prior suggestion to merely enter this as miscellaneous taxable income but then there is no way to list the foreign tax that was paid. Please advise.
Try 99-0999999 as this seems to work well this year. Let us know if this works. If not, you may add this as Miscellaneous Income and then claim the Foreign Tax paid as a Foreign Tax Credit. Here is how to enter.
