Fees

After paying for the turbotax program at a higher price than I have ever paid before, I prepared my paperwork for filing. The last page of the paperwork had a $40.00 fee that I had NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF.  I had already paid for program and now they want even more. Just because I am getting a refund does not mean that I should pay even more than the amount I agreed to pay to use the program. I feel I was taken advantage of, and I am fully prepared to choose a different tax prep program next year. What other surprises have any users found?

Did you request to have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund?

If so, there is a $40 service charge for this service that is imposed by a third party processor who handles the refund and removes the fees before depositing the refund in your account.

See this TurboTax support FAG for how to remove the pay with refund option - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/remove-pay-refund-fees-turbotax-online-change/L7UxC6ZZp_US_en_US

Are you using the Desktop program you installed and activated with a 16 digit License Code?   Are you filing a state return?

It is $20 or 25 to efile each state return in the Desktop CD/Download program.  Except New York is free.  See

TurboTax Desktop & TurboTax Advantage 2022-2023 Prices

Be careful when paying the state efile fee.  Try to pay it with a credit card or it will also charge you an Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California) to have it deducted from a federal refund.  So pay attention and go slow and read the screens and watch what you click on.

There is one screen that can trip you up. Go back through the File tab slowly and see what its charging you for.  There is one screen that can trip you up.  People get going too fast through the screens and clicking on the bottom right box to continue.  But on the pay screen you have click on the Left button to pay by credit card (not the right button).
