federal refund

Hi

One quick question. If it says Your 2023 federal taxes are complete and shows Federal refund. I assume I do not need to do anything or pay any money for the IRS.  Everything is done and just wait for the IRS to give me money back, right?

Thanks,

H

I may have misunderstood, but it doesn't sound like you've gone through the process to FILE your tax return.

From both the Online, and Desktop versions of TurboTax you will select FILE from the main menu.

  • In Online it is on the left side.
  • In Desktop it is in the banner at the top of the screen

Continue through the process.  There will be multiple questions.

Be sure to indicate that you do want to E-file your tax return.

Please see the TurboTax article: How do I e-file my tax return?

I have filed the tax return and paid the filling fees. It says the federal refund and shows money. I assume IRS owns me money and therefore I do not need to pay any money to the IRS and just wait for the IRS to refund me. Is it correct?

Yes, essentially that is correct!

However, there is one more condition that must be met.

  • Your tax return must be accepted by the IRS
  • Log back into TurboTax
  • You'll see the status on the Tax Home screen of your account
  • TurboTax will also send you emails letting you know when your e-file status changes.
  • Please see this video How do I check my e-file status?

Thank you for your reply. Please contact us again with any additional questions.

Correct, that is all you need to do at this point.  If the IRS needs anything from you, you will receive a letter in the mail from them.
