Failed Validation Error 54

I am using Turbotax Business for LLCs in California.  I was able to get beyond the Failed Validation Error 54 by turning off Norton Virus Protection and launching Turbotax again.   It then found an update, which once processed, allowed the electronic filing to go through.   I hope this is helpful to someone.

I am getting the failed validation error when I try to e-file my California return.  I checked for updates and turned off and rebooted my computer.  I still can't get it to e-file.  I'm using Turbo Tax deluxe.  Any suggestions?  I already paid for e-file.

I exited Turbotax.  Turned off Norton virus protection.  Launched Turbotax.  This time it found an update that could be applied.   Then I could efile.

Yeah, did all that Still no luck. Just printed it all out and put it in envelopes and mailed it. Spent more time troubleshooting than it took to mail it.

I have tried to reboot, and get updates but still no luck to e-file.  I do not have Norton, I have Webroot which I tried turning off and looking for updates in turbo tax, but still no luck.  Any ideas I can try?

There is another post string specific to the Error 54 problem this year and so far Turbotax has only given suggestions that do not work.  There are a lot of us in the same boat and not able to efile our 1041s.

Hopefully enough people will post to get Turbotax's attention (hint, hint...) and they will fix this before we all need to go buy a different product to efile our returns.

Try updating your program today.  It was announced that this issue has been fixed.

MarilynG1,

I assume if I've already mailed off my tax forms it would be a bad idea to also E-file them? But I'm glad if the problem has been fixed....

Yes! Do not efile after you mailed. This will cause delays for you.
