Failed Validation during transmission

I am having the same issue.  I've done all they suggested, updated windows, ran as an administrator, uninstalled and reinstalled, downloaded the manual update, everything but I am still getting the same message.  Does anyone have a work around?

It depends.  It's possible your computer may not be compatible with Turbo Tax 2024. Here are the 2024 system requirements to run the software.

Operating Systems

  • Windows 10 or later
  • Specific Windows OS: Windows 10 (64-bit), Windows 11 (64-bit)

RAM

  • 4 GB or more recommended

Hard Disk Space

  • 1 GB (plus up to 4.5 GB for Microsoft .NET 4.8 if not already installed)

Monitor

  • 1024x768 or higher recommended

Third Party Software

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 Redistributable (included with TurboTax Installer), Microsoft .NET 4.8

Internet Connection

  • 1 Mbps modem (Broadband connection highly recommended). Required for product activation, software updates and optional online features

If your system is compliant with these requirements, you may wish to reach out to Turbo Tax phone support here. After reaching this site, click on Turbo Tax Desktop, then you will be given the phone number to call.

So I spoke to customer support and the rep figured it out.  She told me to submit the federal without the state and it worked.  She then told me to try to submit the state and it didn't work.  She figured that all of the forms for NYS were not updated and told me to wait until today and try it.  Once I opened Turbo Tax and did the update. lo and behold, there were NYS updated and I was able to submit the state today.

Having this same issue for CA. Ridiculous that TT is putting out buggy software like this. Taxes are frustrating enough before having to deal with this janky programing. FIX YOU SOFTWARE TURBOTAX.

Same for me, i am from CA. It says there is an update available for your version of turbotax. Before you can file electronically, you'll need to get an update. But i just updated my TurboTax, and it says you software is upto date.

I have the same failure; and not able to file electronically.

Tried uninstall/install, update per instruction; and even tried a different PC.

All failed.  Would Turbo Tax please help!

I'm having the same issue when submitting my California return.  It keeps telling me there is an update for my version of Turbo Tax, and it is up to date.  I was able to file my federal return separate, but for some reason the state return will not go through.  What is the fix?

Thanks

Same problem here.  Fails validation claiming there is an update.  Updated twice.  Fully updated.  Problem persists.  CA return.  C'mon Intuit fix this!

I have the same "Failed Validation" error as well.  My state is CA.

I cannot e-file.  When I check for updates, TurboTax says I'm up to date.

Tubro Tax claims I need an update, but when checked it also claims that it's up to date.

I can not efile neither my state (CA) or federal returns, I checked everything on the list and it's is all OK.

Please fix this issue, as it appears that others are also having the same issue.

Trying to submit in California and having the same issue.  On a Macbook but installing update on Turbo Tax and updating to latest OS version still doesn't help.

Update: Intuit just pushed through an update for California dated 2/12/25. It detected it as soon as I started turbo tax. I didn't need to do anything.

After the update installed my return was accepted.

So YES it was all on intuits shody programming. So frustrating . Will NOT be back ever again

I ran into this problem today. There was an update done when I started.

I got the error when I tried to e-file federal plus California.

After reading these messages I tried doing the federal by itself. It worked.

However, I am still getting the same error when e-filing the California return.

So somehow the previous bug fix did not fix the problem in all cases.

So I just spoke to a representative.  Apparently California is not ready to accept anything beyond a basic 1040 tax return.  So if you have other forms basically outside W-2's and other basic forms they won't accept until he told me February 27th possibly.

I wish they had error handling for this so it just said California did not accept rather than an update error.

If anyone hasn't tried yet, try restarting your computer if using TT desktop for successful transmission for federal and state. I was experiencing the same Failed Validation during transmission, even after the updates. However, after reading the threads and calling in to TT,  (800) 446-8848, the very kind representative walked me through possible resolutions, and once restarting my computer, allowing for the most recent 02/12/2025 update to install, I was then able to successfully complete the both the federal and CA state transmissions. Hope this helps someone, good luck.

Same issue here. I'm in CA. As of 2/18/25:

- I tried to file Fed & CA together: Failed

- I tried to file Federal separately: Failed

Following a response I downloaded the latest update from TurboTax on 2/17/25. I then eFiled my Fed return by itself. which now work correctly after the update. I waited until it was accepted then I filed my CA return, which this time it worked correctly.

For my situation, while not the finest FIX, the problem was corrected and I was able to eFile my returns.

Here are several troubleshooting steps that you can try:

You can also try this:  State install/e-file update loop: State not installed after installation or TurboTax needs to update prior to e-file
