Excess SS Tax

My employer took more than the maximum SS tax (one EIN, multiple legal entities) and I mailed the form for the IRS to refund the overage but have not heard back. What do I do? Thank you.

Yes this is always an interesting one, since you expect with 1 EIN they are only reporting income through one company.  It depends how long ago you mailed it into the IRS.  I always suggest setting up an ID.me account with the IRS so you can see when they record receiving your form.  It's not when the mail arrives that's key these days, it is when it is opened and recorded.  It is possible anywhere for things to get lost so if too much time has passed, you can try reaching a real person at the IRS using this:

I hope that answers your questions. Please feel free to give TurboTax a call anytime if you have additional questions or need assistance.

Have a great day!

Thank you very much! How long after it's been recorded should I expect a refund or some type of action/response?
