Etrade import not working

I have been using turbo tax for over 10 years now and each year i import etrade transactions fine, this year so far the import has not worked. I did enable the third party data but still no luck.  I called etrade and they say it's turbo tax issue?

Importing from E*Trade is available. ‌If you're using TurboTax Online, be sure to clear your  Cache and Cookies between attempts. ‌When you type in E*Trade on the bank name, double-click E*Trade from Morgan Stanley in the search results below. You should then get a Sign In link.  Make sure you check your broker account to be sure you enable 'third party sharing'.

@coolduggar did you ever get this working?  I still can't import my E*Trade from Morgan Stanley 1099 consolidated

Unfortunately, it doesn't work and turbotax Support is not helpful at all.

Someone in this forum is throwing silly answers like clear cache or turn third party services, the so called expert have no knowledge or any idea. I am using Turbotax desktop on Mac.

Etrade says it's Turbotax issue and turbotax says it's etrade issue.

Please follow the instructions in this FAQ for steps to import your 1099 forms into TurboTax.

@VictoriaD75 all instructions have been followed and it still doesn't work.  Lots of people reporting the same issue.  There is a bug on the Turbo Tax side.  Can you please try to fix it?

These so called experts have 0 idea what they are saying on these forums, there is definitely an issue with TurboTax, stop providing these stupid solutions, i might have to use other product or fill in the forms manually but these turbo tax support folks suck !

Having the exact same issue. Also using a Mac. Contacted etrade this morning and they looked through their logs for attempted logins and did not see any attempts. I checked my own firewall logs and did not see any blocks in the logs so not exactly sure where the issue lies.

Having the same issue and just wanted to add, I have 2 etrade accounts, and turbotax on mac has successfully imported 1099 from one account but has been failing to even connect to the other.  Tried various ways to solve this but to no avail, which has been driving me crazy

@bunbunh that's interesting.  I wonder why.  Has the PDF version of the 1099 been available on one account longer than the other?  One theory I have seen is that E*trade just needs to make the files available and they do that a few days after the 1099 PDF is posted.

For us we can't get it to work on my wife's account or mine but both just had the 1099 PDF posted 8 days ago.

I am using a desktop version (on a Windows computer) and have the same issue.

Third party data sharing is enabled from e*Trade.

Even if I entered an incorrect password intentionally, it shows the same error.

It is very likely that TurboTax has an issue establishing connection with e*Trade.

Please fix this.

@hyperkik PDFs for both my accounts have been ready.  It's just odd

@HSunSame here.  I have experimented this by entering wrong password.  However I didn't get any window popping up.  It just didn't connect

The same issue. It doesn't matter if I try the correct or incorrect password - the result is the same. "Establishing connection..." and that's it. No error, no popup - nothing.

Version: desktop for Mac

That is correct, once you enter the etrade Morgan Stanley credentials, it just tries to establish the connection and then nothing happens. I am surprised when we have already indicated this is desktop version on Mac, why are the same turbo tax experts asking to clear the cache? This is some issue with turbo tax, I even provided logs indicated and error code from TurboTax hoping that support might be able to review the error message and point to the correct resolution, someone from TurboTax needs to provide an update??

So my usual daily routine now is to launch TurboTax and see if there is an update. This morning there was an update. Yay! Hope was riding high at this point I would finally be able to do my taxes. I then attempt the import again and it fails. Again. Hope spirals down and crashes. But this time there was a different error in the logs:

I'm 100% positive I'm using the correct password. I then tried the following:

* Completely disabled MFA on the account and tried it. Failed.

* Changed my password again to the absolute stupid minimum acceptable. Failed again.

* Entered my userID in all caps. Failed again.

* Uttered a number of words out loud that cannot be repeated on this forum. At least that succeeded.

Checking the logs again it has reverted back to the same error that @coolduggar posted originally:

It would be helpful if Support could at least give us a clue as to the issue and maybe what these codes mean. Can I buy a vowel here?

Another update for the Support folks.  I contacted eTrade again and they confirmed there are no failed logins from my account.  Every attempt has been successful.  They indicated that only the username and password is used and not the MFA code.  Great.  But we are are still having a failure to communicate here. So I started doing some more digging and it turns out the software does not make a direct connection to eTrade. Instead it connects to an AWS gateway that is managed by Intuit.  Using some network packet captures I was able to determine my system hits the following servers and does communicate with them:

financialcredsgateway-aws.api.intuit.com

import-tax-aws.tax.intuit.com

ttdsplunkhec.api.intuit.com

eventbus.intuit.com

This leads me to believe the issue is on that back end system that communicates with eTrade.

Confirming the same observations. I did sniff on the wire too and came to the same conclusion. All signs point to TurboTax backend. I wonder if their support is able to open a ticket or something, or just sitting there to send links to useless faq's.

So I was finally able to resolve this issue. I downloaded and installed H&R Block Premium.  Got to the eTrade 1099 OFX import section and it worked flawlessly.  Sorry TurboTax.  Been using your product for decades now and this is the first time it failed for me.  Was not willing to wait around for a fix that may not come.  For those are curious, the H&R software works almost identical to TurboTax so really no learning curve required.

I can confirm that HR block import works fine, the problem is with TurboTax and before they resolve the issue, their support needs to understand the issue rather than throwing meaningless articles our way.

It's going to be many hours of work to enter everything manually.  i know as soon as I do it Turbo Tax will fix this bug.  I wish they would at least admit there is a bug. Still not working today.

I was able to import all 1099 forms from e*trade using Desktop Premier version.

There must be some updates. Try again guys.
