In past years turbotax has prompted me to type in interest and dividend information for each investment shown for the previous year. I can't find that option for 2024. The only options I see are to import data from investment companies, which is time consuming and clunky or to enter data by hand as if each were a new investment. In other words no prompts for prior investments. Does the old menu that walks you through each individual investment still Exist and how do I get to it?
Make sure you are logged in using the same credentials you used when preparing your 2023 tax return. Please see this link to verify any accounts you may have under your information.
Once you confirm that you are using the same account, follow these instructions to import your data from 2023 if it is not already carried forward.
I did that and all 2023 tax info carried over. What is missing (or I couldn't find it) is a menu that would let me enter 1099 Div and Int information from my 1099 forms as I've had in II past years. I eventually got TT to download most 1099s from investment sources, but when I went into TT worksheets, could not find any worksheets that reflected the data on my 1099s, so can't check the accuracy of the TT downloads and what they did with the downloaded data. 2024 was the year Vanguard transitioned most mutual fund accounts to brokerage accounts and TT has, unfortunately, made a mess of the transition for users with Vanguard accounts. I wasted about a half day trying to unscramble the mess. I could have entered data by hand on paper forms much faster.
