Energy Efficient

I purchased an energy efficient AC and heater for my main home in 2017.  Are those items tax deductible? I did not claim the credit in 2017. Can I claim it in 2020 or do I need to amend my 2017 taxes to include it?

You need to amend your 2017 tax return to claim any credit. This may be a Nonbusiness Energy Property Credit.

Please see the instructions for form 5695 here at the IRS (look at instructions for lines 22a to 22c).

You must amend this before April 15th because the 3 year period to amend is running out, unless you extended your return for 2017.

To learn more information on how to amend your return, please see this TurboTax FAQ.
